iPhone revelation...

Hello.. I'll introduce myself in a proper section of this forum very shortly. I am a month or so away from purchasing a Genesis V6, Tech & Premium Plus. And was researching iPhone connectivity.

Basically, use the 1/8" cable and keep your iphone hooked to your car via the AUX input. Kept up in the arm rest, you wouldn't be notified of text messages, emails, etc. And if you are using the bluetooth feature, in your car. Phone rings. and you don't want the conversation blasted around the occupants in your car, you'd have to get your phone from the arm rest and tell it to transfer audio to your phone, for your conversation privacy.


Does that make sense mates?

You can't listen to music with your Iphone or Itouch via the USB cable that comes with the Iphone or Itouch (I havent tried the Hyundai cable but it says that Iphones/Itouches are unsupported).

So with that said, its the same as any other phone, if you don't want to use the hands free while occupants are in the car, then dont answer the call or put the phone to your ear.

And for that matter, its the same with any other car or hands free device.

I appreciate you want to visualize how your personal tech devices will integrate with the Genesis, it was part of my shopping checklist as well.

I usually leave my cell phone in my pocket or belt pouch because it connects wirelessly. There is a small shelf below the AC controls where I put my Blackberry if I need to charge my phone using the lighter adapter. With the phone on the dash I can also see if there is flashing message indicator and reach it easily.

I keep my 60 GB iPod in the upper compartment of the armrest. iPhones have limited storage capacity, so you may want to use an old iPod or a flash drive for your music files instead of your phone. Search the board for earlier discussions regarding connecting an iPhone to the AUX input using the Hyundai cable accessory.

If you want privacy on your phone calls from other vehicle occupants, turn off Bluetooth to disable the handsfree. You can plug the iPhone into the AUX jacks and leave it outside of the console because there is a passthru channel in the lower armrest so the cable is not pinched with the lid closed. This will allow music playback and visibility of the screen.

I wasn't speaking of privacy from other passengers, or integration actually. I was speaking of how it's a useless feature for me, and possibly other owners, for the simple fact that your phone is cooped up in a arm rest with the combo cable from Hyundai. If kept in there, you wouldn't know you've received a text message, or an email.

If you're a corporate user, and have ActiveSync/Exchange on your iPhone with your company email, and you have to respond (say you're on Emergency Management Staff, etc), and you're phone is in the glove box, or arm rest, so you can jam out to tunes, you don't get a notification on the nav screen advising you of new email or texts. :-/

If you use the Aux Input, and you receive something, you can either see it, or hear the audible tone played over the aux input, if not both Since it's in a cup holder or something...

It was just a thought, and tid bit...

On your post about the on board computer not notifying you of emails, txt messages, meeting requests and such; you are driving a car! I think people forget that these days. I am 29 years old, and consider myself both a tech geek and a car nut. And I love the tech the Genesis has. But the sole of the car is still the V8 engine under the hood and the 4 tires touching the ground. People have to remember that any car can kill instantaneously. What the world doesn't need are people reading txt, emails, faxes or any other unnecessary distractions when they are driving down the road. This goes for both heavy traffic and highway speeds and everything in-between. Because the reason for heavy traffic is cell phones and other distractions (guitar playing! actually seen it). And at highway speeds we don't need people that really think replying to that oh so important email can't wait 30 minutes and thus kills someone. Besides Email isn't an emergency protocol, in an emergency you pick up the phone! Emails by design allow the recipeint to respond in his own time.

Sorry for the rant! But I have a commute to work and in the past 10 years I have seen my coommute double in time, and there is not 2x the amount of cars. But there is a cell phone in 99% of the cars. And 98% of people think it is ok to txt, email etc while driving.

AMEN to that! Axxholes who think that text messaging and cell phones are more important than being aware of what is around you - especially at 60 mph!

Drivers totally unaware of the traffic and other drivers around them.

Please, do not place me in a box because you have an opinion. Zero of you have been in the car with me, while I have made an effort at doing the aforementioned tasks.

And in the State of Florida, it is left to my discretion to do the aforementioned tasks. Until the legislature changes the law, I will continue to do so. I have never placed another driver at risk, or myself for that matter.

My civil liberties, and what I choose to do in my own vehicle (inside the scope of the law) are my business, and not for YOU to decide.

While I think it to be impossible to not slow down while texting and still maintain a safe distance. Example, Safe distance is set considering the driver is actually scanning down the road, minus 1-5 seconds to look at phone hit reply and txt a super fast txt message and hit send now equals a not safe distance. Let's just say you're driving ability is super human and you defy all logic; You can maintain a safe distance that is equal to or less then recommended thus not slowing traffic or reducing safety. You must be the only driver on the road with that ability congratulations! Your original post was about the Hyundai Genesis and the iPhone lack of complete integration so people can txt, email from phone while "jamming out to tunes." My original reply is still valid as I don't think Hyundai Genesis designed the car with your super human driving ability. Instead they designed it for people that feel driving, while jamming out to tunes and replying to txt and emails at the same time is not a safe behavior.

Plus they designed the automobile to be 50 State legal. Several states including my own actually have common sense laws that prohibit texting while driving. And I am sure your state will eventually as well.

I am sorry you feel that way. It was not my intent to analyze your driving ability (which could very well be the best in the world). I was just offering a reason why the Genesis or for that matter every car does not have full integration with the iPhone (txt, email, etc...) or any phone.

I find it supercilious to mention in a bad light something about a great car when there are obvious reasons not to have the aforementioned option not be available. And that is all I was trying to say.

But if you so choose not to back up your orginal argument and instead ignore the issue that is your perogative. Further if you want to continue an ill advised behavior while driving that is also your poragative. It will or will not catch up to you.

I wish you the best, and certainly hope you enjoy your Genesis as much as I do!

I forgot to mention that an 18 year old girl here in Phoenix was killed while she was text messaging.

She crossed over lanes and was hit head on.

I value my life more than a phone call or text messaging.

PS - I have to watch out for others who are performing the above.

Maybe this would be a good new thread to comment on.
