  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone get this to work?

I have the hyundai cable and an ipod nano. I had it working in my old car with ipod hook up (plus with headphones its fine), so i'm pretty sure the ipod is fine.

When i siwtch to cd/aux, it scans for a couple seconds and then says no media.

I've tried all different variations of hooking it up (ie, radio on, then plug in ipod; radio off, ipod connect, turn on radio, etc) and its the same thing every time. am i missing something.

The manual states some vagueness about leaving it unplugged when starting the car, but otherwise its not helpful.

Works perfectly in my car. I thought the iPod source selection was seperate from the CD/AUX?

hrm, the manual says to put it there. what option are you selecting?

I guess you are right. I never use the source selection button on the dash, I use the mode button on the steering wheel, which just goes to the next source each time I press it and iPod shows on my display (I rarely move it off iPod).

Once you are on the iPod, you can hit the Cat button on the dash to activate the iPod menu system, using the right knob to scroll down the list, and push the knob in to select.

Not sure about the iPod Nano. If there is a compatibility problem with the Nano, I would invest in a regular iPod with 30+ GB and put your whole music collection on there.

I got it working finally. apparently i didn't push the cable in far enough. it requires a REALLY hard push to fully snap/seat.

Is there IPOD connection in all models? Does it show song info in the head unit? Does it allow you to control the IPOD?
I'm about to buy a 2.0T and need to know this... it isn't make or break the deal but it sure is important to me.

Thanks!

This has nothing really to do with the discussion so far, but it is on topic:

Has anyone tried hooking up a non-iPod MP3 player to the iPod interface (ie: I have a Sandisk Sansa Clip that connects with USB and uses a standard folder structure, not Apple's proprietary one)?

Any luck? I'm not really holding out much hope since the features are designed around iPods, but who knows?

If the car can read music off a USB key, it may treat my player similarly.

Re: Sansa hook up

I have tried my Sansa in the USB port with mixed results. It seemed to be stuck in one album and showed only the songs in that album. Within that album it acted just like the USB key.

Interesting.....Perhaps that's something that can be remedied by a firmware update (either in the car itself or the Sansa).

I was fortunate enough to be given an 80 GB iPod as an award where I work a few years ago, but I would not hesitate to buy another for my Genesis (or any car that supported it). You could probably get a good 30 or 80 GB used iPod for a remarkably low price on eBay, and since it would sit under the arm rest it doesn't matter what kind of cosmetic shape it is in.

I have to admit that I was skeptical about the hype that seems to surround all Apple products, but the iPod is amazing in terms of audio quality (at least at 256 kbps) and convenience. Other than occasionally listening to ESPN talk radio on AM radio, my iPod is the only thing I listen to on my Genesis audio system. I would not listen to XM even if it was free (sounded like crap during my trial period).

Stupid question about the Ipod hookup (my first car that has one)..

When the car is not running, does it stop the power going to the Ipod or will it keep charging it until the car battery is dead (I sure hope they are smarter than that but you never know!)

(I'm using the hyundai ipod cable)

I have a suspicion that in some cases the iPod keeps running. I notice that if I open my driver door too soon after shutting off the engine (and obviously if I open it before shutting off the engine) there is a chime sound when the door is opened. I have also noticed (I think) that in those cases the iPod seems to have skipped songs in my play-list when I turn the engine back on, instead of resuming where it left off.

In these circumstances, I don't know if the iPod is running on the car battery, or just running on the iPod battery. But I do try to delay a second or two before opening my car door after I shut off the engine and make sure there is no door chime when I exit the car.

Info received today from Hyundai indicates that an adapter for a Sansa to the Hyundai ipod cable should be available from RadioShack. Anybody doing this?

No. But it would be interesting to see what kind of functionality it offers over simply using a USB key (ie: advanced playlists and/or additional format compatibility). Where did you hear about this?
