  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone had any luck figuring out a way to utilize shuffle/random play features from an iPod playlist on the 17speaker tech package Lexicon system? For a while, I couldn't get shuffle to work at all with any of my iPods (new Nano, current 80gb iPod, 5th generation 60gb iPod). Then I discovered that if I (a) set the iPod to shuffle on the iPod itself prior to connecting it to the car, then (b) skipped a couple of songs to verify that it was shuffling, then (c) paused the unit, then (d) connected it to the Hyundai iPod cable in my Genesis, then it would play in shuffle mode... but only if I let it shuffle all 15,000+ songs on the iPod. Once I choose any playlist, however, it plays in order and will not shuffle.

Has anyone found a workaround on this?

I have seen photos of the sound system display on the standard Genesis, and it shows both song title and artist (and I believe it also shows playlist); however, on my 17 speaker Lexicon system, the stereo system only displays the name of the song. Has anyone found a way to activate full information display, or is that also problematic?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

(By the way, I love the sound system; I had an Acura with the ELS system and loved it, but if anything, the sound was a bit too discrete on the five speakers--that is, the separation was so strong that you got the feeling of five distinct sounds rather than a blended surround experience. On the Lexicon, it's both distinct and enveloping at the same time. And the simulated surround off both iPods and CD's is amazing. Even XM radio sounds more full and rich than on the Acura. And it's head and shoulders above the Lexus that I test-drove; Lexus has a mushy, indistinct sound from DVD-Audio, while the Genesis is amazingly full-bodied and crisp.

I don't have an iPod so will have to pass on that. That said, the system does have the capability to display the items you want from the details menu:

Check out page 50 in the DIS manual for more info.

You could always listen to a playlist in shuffle mode from your iPod if you just plug in through the headphone jack and control all functions from the music player.

The iPod integration has some limitations. I certainly does not display everything like album art, artist name or time remaining. You just get the name of the song. If you move the controller to the right you can select details, but this is far from ideal. I think we will have to wait for the next generation system to improve these features.

I have the Premium Package Lexicon system and have not found a way to randomly shuffle the songs by using the audio system controsl. However, I have found that by simply plugging the iPod in the songs play in alphabetical order which is the next best thing, as you're still getting it to play different artists randomly.

On my PDF, page 50 relates to HD radio, not iPods--am I missing something?

Didin't mean to confuse. The picture on page 50 displays the data you were inquiring about. [i.e. the system knows how to get it from the radio]. iPod stuff starts on page 124, and does not show the same display. Since the system can display the data, if iPod won't, it should only be a matter of time before they add that feature.

Yeah, the only way to get shuffle with my iPhone is to have it shuffle first before I connect it to the DIS. That's actually good enough for me. I'm was quite surprised with the lack of shuffle ability through the DIS menu though. They integrated everything else but not shuffle. Oh well.

hopefully this feature will come out in a future software update....

Ah, but when you're a Beatles completist like me who has ripped a lot of his bootleg collection to MP3 as well, you can be confronted with up to 33 different versions of the same song--not counting cover versions, etc. That's when alphabetical becomes problematic.
