  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is 2012 the last year for the 4.6 ?

WOW!!!

A top 10 Ward engine and they're done with it.
I'm really surprised!!!

They already don't offer the 4.6 in Canada for 2012, not sure about other markets.

It makes sense to end the 4.6. The two engines are based on the same architecture. The 5.0 is essentially the same engine that's be bored out and given fine tuning with Direct Injection, different cylinder sleeves, chromium-coated piston rings to decrease internal friction losses, a lightweight exhaust manifold, and tuned intake system. However, the company still has the code name Tau designated for both engines. This is just an update, not new.

All they are saying is that in 2013 there will most likely be the following:

  1. V6 3.8L
  2. V8 5.0L
  3. V8 5.0L - sport tuned for R-Spec model

4.Hyundai will be getting rid of the 4.6-liter V8 in the Genesis sedan for 2013.

No, they are going to bore out the 4.6, add GDI, and call it the 5.0. Same fricken engine, just a little larger displacement and GDI. Get over it.

Call me crazy, but the 4.6 going away in 2013 makes mean lean more toward getting a 2012 3.8. Still looking to purchase a Genesis.

The price difference between the fully optioned out 3.8 vs the 4.6 is so small, I'm leaning to the 4.6. If you look at where they make torque, it seems to me the 4.6 would have more scoot without having to wind it out quite as much. I don't rack up lots of miles so the mileage difference is moot for me. Nor do I plan on autocrossing, so the added nimbleness of the lighter V6 also doesn't matter.

You nailed it on the head Acoga. I was interested in the V6 at 1st, but then saw a loaded V8 and is was barely more $, so I chose the right one for myself. Plus the engines get damn near the same MPG's.
