  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does this seem like a safety issue. Maybe some of you have noticed this. I have noticed that the back up camera display will change if you change a function on the radio, XM, USB, an incomming call, or hanging up a current call. It would seem that they would want to keep that display up until the car is put in a forward position or park.

I know the Audi A7 makes you confirm that you understand Audi is not responsible for any incident that happens while using the back up camera...EVERY TIME you back up.

Seem like two extremes.

I've noticed this too (mainly because one of my colleagues likes to start toying with the DIS immediately) and agree that it's a fairly glaring safety oversight on Hyundai's part.

The only "safety oversight" is with the operator, not the manufacturer. When you are backing up, why are you (or anyone) fooling around with the DIS Knob? You should be paying attention to the backup screen, the mirrors, or just look back, not fooling around with the DIS Knob.

Sorry!

Actually Bob this could occur when you hook up your iPod/iPhone. This could happen with an incomming call, plugging in a USB or with the wife passenger messing with it. All do not require you to look away from backing up.

Technology is not a replacement for common sense.

If the camera stops displaying, stop the car IMMEDIATELY!! Turn your head and look back and then proceed.

At least that's how we used to do it before Reverse View Camera's ;)

The backup camera is not a replacement for checking behind you for on coming traffic or people. All it does is give you an idea about what is happening immediately behind your back bumper. If you are counting on the backup camera when you back up I would consider YOU to be the safety problem not the camera. The camera is best used when parallel parking so you don't hit the guy behind you. In all other situations it is only 5 % of the solution, the other 95% being in the head of the driver

P.S. The camera can't see if someone or something is coming from the side.

I am not implying to just use the camera. However, the camera does help with objects that are small and directly behind the car. I don't think there was anything referring to solely using tha camera just an oddity that the screen would switch while in motion. Instead of assuming what someone is saying maybe we should try asking.

Interesting. I've never seen that happen. I would have assumed that it would have locked you out of everything, seeing that it will cancel voice command if you enter reverse, switch away from any screen you're on, etc.

The most help the camera has given me so far is in backing down my daughter's winding, rock-edged driveway at night (or any time). I just keep the green lines on the pavement and it is a no-brainer. With my former cars, it was a chore.

I get what you're saying........ I just think it would be a leap to call it a safety issue....... a nuisance perhaps...... I agree by the way that the camera system should lock out everything else when the camera is engaged....

Agreed

Why the head has a swivel, to look behind you. I use the camera as a tool, not a replacement for proper driving.

If this occurs when "fiddling", stop, put car in P, and put in R again. Presto! Looking out over the rear license plate on the DIS again!

I dont think the OP meant he didn't use common sense, you guys are going a bit overboard here. I think any smart driver isn't going to rely on the backup camera entirely. However, he is correct in saying it is a safety issue. I use a bluetooth phone and an IPOD, both of which could go on at anytime and replace the backup screen. Maybe its fine when you are pulling out, but in the case above, navigating a winding driveway at night, if your screen goes off you may end up hitting the curb or something before you can come to a stop.

thank you JayJay...perfectly said. The camera is good addition to swivleing the head and using your mirrors, and a great TOOL when backing out of a parking space or when trying to park in a tight spot.
