  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a G2 Montecito Blue awd V6 bought August 14 and garage kept. I live on Long Island, New York. If I debadged rear after owning car for year and half, do you think it would show an outline where badges are removed (due to possible fading)?

Shouldn't be a problem, just have some polishing compound on hand and a decent random-orbit polisher. You really should be polishing the entire trunk (facing) area regardless of age anyway to ensure evenness.

Even if there is an outline it's very difficult to see once the new badge is on.

If you don't have a polisher, buy one, it will come in handy for polishing/waxing the car afterwards. Porter cable has a good one here:

You'll want to replace the pads on it for best results.

Here's a picture of mine, I polished for a good 20 minutes to make sure there was nothing left behind cuz...black.

Shouldn't be an issue at all. Are you talking about rebadging or debadging?

I debadged mine, just curious if that's what he was wanting to do. he made no mention of replacing the badge so just wanted to clarify.

It occurred to me as well, after you posted it lol and then remembered the work you went through to have the holes "disappeared".

Well worth it in my opinion. I do like the Genesis wings but the clean look is more in line with what I wanted. Just curious if the OP was going the same route!

Hi All,

I am talking about debadging (sorry I wasn't clear on that point). I basically will keep the wings I had put on the trunk, but want to rid the rear of all other emblems ie: word "Genesis, etc" and what ever else is on trunk. Am I correct in assuming the only holes would be if I also wanted to get rid of the wings (which I don't want to do), I assume all other emblems are glued on.

That is where my concerns are. By not replacing anything in the spots I remove the emblems from, will it show fading ? Color of G2 is Montecito blue and is usually garaged on Long Island.

Thanks for the replies. Great forum.

You are correct on the other emblems just being glued on.

You shouldn't have any issues with paint fading. Go for it!

Thinking about debadging "Genesis" and "3.8" off of the trunk. Does anyone think the lease company would have any issue with that? Had the wings installed as part of the deal. Never have liked the "Genesis" or the 3.8 on the trunk.

if its a lease I would just leave it as is.

I'm not sure if they would care or not - you could always purchase replacements add reinstall them before turning the car in.

I Just gotta thank everyone who responded to my concerns about debadging my trunk emblems but leaving the installed wings.

Once I get my courage up (after getting OK from my spouse) I will do the following:

Hair dry emblems (about 15 seconds) until I can pry them off ( with pliers)or use fish string (#20)
use WD40 to clean off residual glue
end with rubbing alcohol

Happy New Year to all

Here is my debaged Genesis...
