Is there a trick for mounting the wheels?

Spent an hour struggling to mount the stock rims back on with the winter tires because it is a bitch to get it to stay on the narrow lip and line up the holes when there are no studs on the hub! This usually takes me 20 minutes on most cars but the GV70 was a challenge! Anybody have a trick for this? Or does everybody have a tire shop do it?

Hmm, I didn't have much issue when swapping. I make sure I know where the top bolt hole is on the hub and I have a bolt ready to my right when I get it on the hub and use my knees or foot to keep it in place. Keeping it jacked so tire is about half to one inch off ground helps. These hangers are a good idea though. I might have a bolt in the garage that I can cut the head off of that will serve same purpose so I don't have yet another tool that gets rarely used.

Go to hardware store and buy a bolt of proper thread size and cut the bolt head off. You should only need one.

That's what I posted. Thought I had one, but no, so called every hardware store (crappy tire, HD, Rona, Home hardware)....no one carries this size and thread. Can get just one for $12 on Amazon delivered to door...not worth the hassle trying to find or Mcgyvering a bolt.

So thx to TO Genesis for pointing us to a tool I never knew existed.

Well, darn it. I remember going through the spare tire kit when I first got the car and seeing a strange straight bolt there, but of course, like the typical "Squirrel!" moments I experience as I get older, 2 mins later forgot to look into its purpose.

Really...guess I didn't look at that closely enough. It isn't exactly easy to access it and winter hit full-on this morning so I will wait for my order from Amazon and keep that in the glove compartment.

Yeah, I checked this morning just to be sure, and it's there. Just need to grab the floor handle in the back, pull it up and right there in the molded foam on the top of the spare, towards the front of the car, you will find the bolt. Has its own molded compartment. Really easy to get for the two times we change out per year. Of course, that presumes one doesn't have a ton of stuff in the back requiring unloading of the car. Cancelled my Amazon order.

Amazon was too quick for that. Ha. Drone dropped it in my lap before my finger left the "SEND" button... lol. Damn you, Amazon for being so convenient. Threw it in my "tire change" toolbox drawer, appeals to "future lazy me," so I don't need to open the GV trunk.

For sure make it easier, but I managed with little issue with no hanger when I swapped in spring. So having one at least to guide in, and once you get it on the center hub, should be good to go. Changing mine in a week or two, so will report back based on number of curse words used during the process. ;-)

Just swapped my wheels. Not one curse word. One hanger is plenty. Two is simply a time waster.

Tire coming off: remove first bolt closest to top and replace with hanger. Take rest of bolts off and remove wheel.

Tire going on: slide wheel on hanger and once close to hub simply swing wheel a bit to left or right to line up the CB hole with hub, and once you push it on the hub, wheel stays in place. Place first bolt and tighten a bit, remove hanger and install remaining bolts, torque, done.

Edit: if you want to make your life easier come spring, apply some anti seize to the inside of the centre hub (prevent rust) and around outside where it contacts the wheels centre bore hole. These two can corrode with salt making removal a bit harder.

I've changed thousands of tires (ok, maybe many hundreds) but never needed a hanger. Your explanation makes perfect sense, thanks!
