  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This evening my wife had an appointment at 9:30 pm and was nervous she wouldn't be able to find the address in the dark. So I told her to follow me and I would get her there. She was in her GV60 and I was leading in my car. Anyway, every time she signaled for a turn, the headlight on the side to which she was heading turned completely yellow and flashing and then when she completed the turn it was white again. And for a split second when she put the turn signal on the white headlight went dark and then immediately turned flashing yellow. Then when she completed the turn again it went very briefly black and then back to full on white. Is this normal?

I would have expected the 6 DRLs (3 top, 3 bottom, on the far-outside) to turn yellow to indicate the turn signal, while the top-inside 2 lights (headlights) to remain on/white. I believe the 2 lower-inside are the Hi Beams.

The headlight should have remained on. Are you sure the headlights were on and not just the daytime running lights? The daytime running lights will behave as you described, becoming the turn signal when signaling and returning to daytime running lights after the turn.

I am pretty sure the headlights were on and even had the high beam auto function on. I was shocked to see the lights go black, then blinking yellow, then back to black briefly before switching to full on white. I will check the settings again.

I will check again tonight once it is dark.

Ok so today when I drove her GV60 I noticed she had somehow moved the light knob from "auto" to "off". So that most likely means the lights I was seeing in the dark while she was following me at night were the daylight running lights which turned off when she put on her turn signal. Problem solved hopefully.

I have seen it many time with cars approaching and signalling turns. Never gave it much thought though..Just the way they are wired, or the type of relay to highlight the signal I guess.
