  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yes, no, almost, sometimes, mostly ....

I like the car more than the dealership. Just me. Curious about the rest of you.

I am hoping that the car is reliable enough, that I'll never find out. So far so good. 3 Months of ownership and I have not had to visit the dealer yet.

I know they'll be able to change oil as good as tires plus.

My dealer is the same Lincoln Mercury dealer I had before buying the first Hyundai. I was looking at Lincolns and saw the azera limited. Bought the car and loved it. Traded it for the Genesis and I love it so far. Dealer came with the car. I have had to complain to him before but he fixed the problem with service. Bottom line: they are no worse than most, better than some, and what can you do? Hyundai can only do so much. At least they try. I've never had an American make listen to my complaints except Chevrolet about a Corvette.

Used Homer Skelton Wolfchase three times for warranty work and oil changes have been totally satisfied!

My sales department was superb - easy communication, honest, worked with me to find the car I wanted, and will still get me a rental if I ever need to bring the car in for service - one reason I bought the car where I did was their up front honesty and reliability. Their service department however is terrible - I doubt they know their asses from their elbows and each time my car has been in for service they have mucked something up. Brand of car aside, I've never dealt with such an inept service department in my life.

Fortunately for me, there's another Hyundai dealership nearby that is associated with a Lexus dealership, so maybe the quality/reliability of its service department will be better. Its a shame imo that Hyundai invested billions of dollars into engineering, building and marketing such a great car only to have the dealer service departments piss away all that good will to get first time buyers like myself with the worst service I've ever experienced at any car dealership in my lifetime.

My dealer also has a dealership across the road selling VW and Subaru. The Hyundai dealership is constantly advertising for sales people and they do what they think they need to do to get the sale. The service advisor is nice and treats me well when I come in for oil changes. If there comes a day I am no longer satisfied with them, City Hyundai is 85 miles away and I won't hesitate to drive there.

My dealer in Joplin also sells M/B's. Same show room, lounge, lot and sales people. My 4.6 was in the show room sitting next to an E and a S class. The S was on sale, marked down to just $98K. That made the Genesis look like a real bargain. That part of their operation is a class act but they have separate service areas so that could be an issue in the future. I do my own oil and filter changes and hope my visits to the service dept. are few and far between.

My previous dealership was Antwerpen Hyundai in Clarksville, MD. It was a standalone dealership but the building was pretty small. I had no problems with their service though.

My current service is Dick Edwards Hyundai in Manhattan, KS. There's a separate dealership that sells nothing but Hyundais, but the service department is at their Ford/Mazda dealership (apparently they used to sell Hyundais there also). I haven't had any major difficulties getting my Genesis serviced there other than the time the tech used the wrong Nav Update CD and screwed up my head unit. Took a while to wait for a replacement, but they took care of without any huge rigamarole.

After 8 years of Acura ownership, I have found the Hyundai dealership to be a big step down. The place is old and dirty. When I have gone to pickup my car, there is no help from the staff. I have to find someone (who doesn't speak English) to help me and those people don't know how to find the car either. The whole experience has been like dealing with a side-show. When my car is finally located, it is dirty.

The Acura dealerships offer modern, clean, and quiet lounges with amenities. When I pick up the car, it is washed (even if I just came in for an inspection) and clean inside. I didn't have to look for my car, it was immediately brought to the door for me. My Acuras had zero mechanical problems over 8 years. My Genesis has had the steering wheel problem, a seat position problem, and a failed lumbar support.

Owning an upscale car should be a totally satisfying experience. That includes both the quality of the car and the experience with the dealer.

Uneven dealer quality seems to be the rule. Mine is great - not fancy, but competent and responsive. There are too many reports of dissatisfied buyers. Can't tell how many are from folks with elevated expectations and how many are legitimate gripes, but in any case Hyundai should set and enforce minimum standards for all dealers in both sales and service. Dealers are independent businesses, but like any franchise the operators should have to conform to a set of standards. You can go into any McDonald's and know what to expect - the same should be true for car dealers as well.
