  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I’m not a fan of the auto start/stop function, and I find myself turning it off every time I get into The GV70 for a drive. My question is, has anyone discovered a way to turn it off permanently?

One simple option GV80 owners (and other brands) have discovered. The Bread clip trick

Thank you Etex! I’m going to give that a try.

This is perfect, since I don't want to drive in Sport Plus all the time! 👍

There are other wired solutions discussed here:

This one requires splicing wires, but does have a GV70 option in the selection menu.

Thank you for the links.

If I decide the bread clip isn’t my thing I will try the ISG, but I’ve heard the wire management on The GV70 is meticulous (I haven’t looked) so I’m definitely not going to be splicing anything.

Thank you again Etex for the info!

A smaller more inconspicuous trick is a bit of rubber like a heatshrink tube instead of a bread clip.
I'm not willing or even motivated to try to re-wire it just in case it causes warranty issues, since just holding the button down always works.

When I get behind the wheel I hit the start button then the stop/start button then select sport mode then select my gear and off I go. It has become a habit which takes literally seconds.

Even though I'm the only one in my car 99% of the time, I would be embarrassed to see this. Sheer vanity would overwhelm my laziness obligating me to summon the strength to raise my arm, extend my finger and forcibly depress the button.

But congrats on the work around

Just trim it down and it won't be seen. Your bread may go stale though.

For the decerning hacker

Guitar picks come in a variety of thicknesses, materials and shapes..

Hahaha, my brain was thinking of the same thing, but could not put them in words or say it eloquently as you did.

As a physical button, I'll probably just push it. I recall reports of early instances of the current generation Subaru Outback had it buried several layers deep on the touchscreen menu structure, which would be awful, but I understand you can customize the home screen now. When we test drove 2 2021 Outbacks recently, one had a button on the home screen and one didn't.

I really appreciate the GV70 mixture of touchscreen, remote knob, and dedicated physical controls. I hate what Subaru Outback did with almost everything only on the big touchscreen. I expected to buy a 20 or 21 Outback and it's now about #3 or #4 on my list.

Ironically Subaru's S/S is really awful compared to everything else we've tested, and the one where disabling S/S would be most important to me. I might well keep it on with the GV70, but would need to disable on a Subaru.

You said It ottawa, about the controls on The GV70, they are an ergonomic dream!

Thats interesting about your experience with Subaru‘s auto stop/start system. I guess I can let it go now that I know it’s not the worst one, and I have some pretty cool guitar pics laying around, if I do decide to go that route.

Thank you for sharing your insights.
