  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I ordered an SD card with the navigation and infotainment software update. I took out my old SD card, put the new one in, followed instructions, and 30 minutes later, had an updated system. However, the update killed Genesis Connected Services. The car no longer gets signal, and under Modem Information, the IMEID and USIM both display zeros. As usual, support says they’ve never seen anything like it, then started blaming trees, roofs, and weather for no signal, before finally opening a ticket saying “engineers” will try and take a look at it on the back end. The dealer had no idea what to do and said that like me, they would also just rely on Hyundai remote support, so there was no sense in me leaving the car with them.

Has anyone else had a software update do this? If so, were you able to get it fixed?

Never happened to me after many, many updates in all my three Genesis. Did you try to reset the unit? If that doesn't solve your problem try to put your old SD card.
Although is not the same car and conditions take a look a this thread. Is the only thing I found related to your question in the forum.

Good luck and keep us updated.

I had an issue with the cell system that is built in not connecting correctly. There is an area within our screen that will provide cell specific info that you are connected. Don’t remember exactly where but connected services had me look at that before we reset my system. Genesis connection services had me press that tiny button on the left side by the on/off knob to reset the whole infotainment system. Worked for me and woke up the cell system to make a connection to a cell tower and my connected services started working correctly. Might try that reset and see what happens?

Tried that several times. No effect.

Tried that already, but no effect.

After the update mine was having issues connecting as well. Along with this, was unable to use my voice services to look up destinations. I got too busy with work and home things and just ignored it for a couple weeks, didn't do anything about it, not even a reset. After a while it just started working normally again as if nothing had happened. Lol.

Do all nav updates also update the whole infotainment system too? Pretty sure my 2020 G70 does not have the latest nav map update for when I looked at rev level it was 12... something and not 13..., but not sure what I’m really missing and if an update may honk up something’s else or not?

what is called ver 13.x is really 12,4xxxxx on the screen. You can check for updates at www.mapnsoft.com/genesis

That the IMEID and USIM both display zeros, seems very telling. The Modem software is updated also and it sounds like it did not take. Maybe the Modem software was not on the SD card, or it failed the install but not the wipe. Can you try the upgrade again?

Thanks. Tried that, created account OK, but when I added my VIN, basically says vehicle is not registered. I have plates now and registration sticker so my state knows who I am registration wise. I remember reading here somewhere that Genesis was real slow to add new vehicles for map updates? I’m about 5 weeks into ownership.

Yeah, after attempting to register it takes a while for the website to allow you to update things (ie saying that an update is available). For me it took a while, even though I had my car for a few months already.

It took 8 weeks for the MapNSoft website to accept my VIN after purchase, so you've probably got a while to go but it should take your VIN eventually...

UPDATE 1:

20 days without service. Genesis called me 3 times, twice telling me that the "engineers" have no update, and once telling me that the issue is solved, and that all I had to do was start and turn off the car 3 times. This did not work, and the "engineers" are looking at it again. Dealers don't want to touch this, and just tell me to call support, and support is useless, and do not want to replace the head unit.

This is a real conversation from two days ago:

Agent: How do you know your Connected Services isn't working?

Me: Are you serious, the unit has zero bars of signal.

Agent: That doesn't tell me anything.

Me: I can't remote start my car, lock or unlock it.

Agent: Can you use any other remote features?

Me: Again, the car gets no signal, I can't use ANY Connected Services features.

Honestly, I kind of just want out of this car, or some sort of settlement for all my issues (body trim, pillar noises, moonroof noises, brakes, and now this). I can't imagine what kind of nightmare they would put me through if this car had serious mechanical problems. Do you guys think I should contact a lawyer? Feeling pretty helpless.

Also, if any of you feel like giving them a piece of your mind over the terrible customer service I've received, my case number is 16214749. Perhaps a small, angry mob of Genesis owners/potential owners may speed things along.

Some people have reported that complaining on Facebook has helped. Basically, the bigger the stink you make, the more they notice. From a legal perspective, I'm sure there's probably a lot of red tape and bullshit stipulations that you'd have to meet to actually have a winnable case

I tried complaining on FB, and even reached out to some people on LinkedIn. They don't seem to care.

Hmmm... Have you contacted MapnSoft? I wonder if they night be more familiar with this problem...

I'm hopeful you can get a good resolution to this problem, along with your other problems with the car. I don't blame you one bit for feeling the way you do right now.

Edit: here is their number... (888) 757-0010

Update:
Genesis of South Loop gave a very confusing explanation, but apparently there is a recall on some software updates out there, which may cause various glitches in some G70 and G80 headunits. They did something at the dealer, along with GCS engineers to retain the software update I'd already performed, but to get GCS back up and running. Took 27 days to fix, total.

Glad to hear it's fixed! I'd say I'm saddened to hear it took so long, but my expectations for Hyundai/Genesis dealer are already on the ground at this point
