In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. My Lexicon audio system went mute on my 2011 V8 for the second time today. Just like the last time, no audio when I turned the car on in the morning. I stopped, turned the car off/on several times, still no audio. Like the last time, I parked the car and went to work. 10 hours later when I drove it home, the audio just worked again like that. I searched the threads and It seemed I wasn't the only one with the problem. Several questions:
1. Will this repeat itself again? Is this symptomatic of the amplifier about to fail? I brought it in and the dealer didn't do anything because everything worked.
2. If you had the same problem, did you ever get it fixed?
3. what are your theories? couldn't possibly overheated because, it happened first thing in the morning.
Somewhat disappointed; my experience with the service department was terrible. Appoinmentts were hard to get. They didn't really provide a plausible answer.
thanks.

sorry. It looks like I posted in the wrong forum.

I have a 2010 Genesis 4.6 No sound, check antenna error 3 times

1) It could, does not mean that the amplifier is about to fail.

2) No, it was working when I took it in so dealer said bring it right in when it happens again, which I plan to do.

3) I have all kinds of theories but as opinions and theories are so easily attacked I will keep them to myself but as Hyundai does not have an answer and if they did they have not shared it with my dealer, I have no clue. Right now it does not happen enough to where it bothers me.

Details please:
What mode were you in when you parked for the night?
Do you turn the system off?
Have you tried stopping for 10-15 minutes? Does it re-set then?
Are you sure nothing interrupted the shut down process for the night? Key wasnt left in car?

Just asking.

I bought a 2011 V8 last November, and I've had this same problem three times. Had the same experience with the dealer--wasn't happening when I took it in, so they couldn't find anything. Told me to bring it back when it was happening. It's not an major problem, but it is annoying, especially if it happens at the start of a long trip. Hope Hyundai get's serious and figures it out before it becomes major.

last time it happened:
1. I was using XM when I turned the car off
2. I didn't turn radio off (just the car)
3. Key fob was in my pocket
4. iphone cable plugged into car, but the iphone was not attached at the other end.

everything just worked again after parked for about 10 hours at work.

by the way, does anyone know if the 2012 models can stream music via bluetooth and has iphone integration improved?

thanks.

Similar experience yesterday. I was playing audio from a flash drive -- that works great, by the way -- on my 2011 4.6, and I stopped in a restaurant to pick up a sandwich. Must have had car off for about 10 minutes or less. When I restarted, no sound. I cut it off and restarted again. Still no sound.

I went on to my destination -- a few minutes away. Cut off car, visited about two hours. Then I restarted car, and audio worked fine. Go figure.

Tarheel,
What year is your V8?
Hyundai needs to step up and gives us an explanation for this phenomenon.

Same happened to me...in my new 2012 3.8! I stopped for a brief visit to a grocery store afterwhich the audio system went on vacation for at least 5 hours...that's when I checked the car for audio and it was working again. Part of our Genesis is an apparently quirky logic with some of the controls. I say apparently because I think there is a predicatable event occuring that would explain whats happening and how to avoid it. I owned the 2010 version earlier (non tech audio) and I had other issues that I eventually figured out. I learned to reset the steering wheel column and what to do when the windows would not follow the promt from the controls. I think that Hyundai buys these assemblies and just passes on the venders use directions without understanding everything about the assembly they sourced. I'm hoping that some answer is forth coming soon before this happens again...don't be suprised if the answer is from some source other than Hyndai ala the steering column.

what happened to your steering column and what did you do to fix it? just in case it happens to mine.
thanks.
by the way, can you stream music via bluetooth on your 2012?
thanks.

There seems to be a pattern in these tales: everything works, then after a short stop it doesnt. That happened to me once only, all was fine after the car sat for a while.
I suspect the car sits in standby for a period, then shuts down completely. But the standby is messing up somehow. The poster that waited 5 hours may have only had to wait 20 minutes but we don't know.
Tis a puzzlement.

Look up the automatic steering wheel position on several threads here. In a nutshell the wheel/column loses its positional range after a while...somtimes dramatically so. I didn't even realize there was an issue until I read about it on the forum. Someone said his steering wheel no longer shifted out of the way when turning the engine off and I realized that was correct for my car too. The fix is to move the wheel through the range of motion with the engine off and the wheel starts to behave like it did when new...read the threads for the exact procedure. If you have the tech version with driver seat cooling then there is a simple fix if the driver seat stops cooling like it did when new. Again take a quick look in the general sedan section for the threads. I'll bet there is a simple explanation for the audio issue...the owners will probably figure it out just like the other issues...are there similar issues for Lexus, BMW or MB?

It just happened to me and i was close to the dealer so I wheeled in. Dealer OF COURSE was not aware of this problem that seems to be affected many Hyundai owners. He told me that the only thing he could do is order me a new antenna. We'll se...

Mine was mute just yesterday when I left the house. No response to the prompt button and no radio, aux, disc, or navigation voice. A brief shutdown and restart at a traffic light did not help. When I stopped for lunch, it was OK again when I left the restaurant.

This has happened to me about four times in two years. I believe it has to do with the exact timing that things happen during starting the car. I punch off the nag screen and punch on the cooled seat right away. I think that the problem happens when I start pushing buttons too quickly.

I bought a 2009 Genesis 4.6 last week. Started reading this forum last night and read about the audio systems bleeping out. Well, today I went to lunch and all was fine. Got back in the car after lunch and it was audio was dead as a hammer. "Check Antenna" message. I read where the dealers had advised all the above to "bring it in if it happens again", so i just drove straight there. I told him of this forum and the common audio problems owners are having and of course he had no idea. His response was to order me an antenna and he hoped that would fix the problem. Fine...
I just walked out to the parking lot to try it (3 hours since lunch) and it is working fine.
Anyone ever get a good answer for this?

I started this thread and have been thinking a lot about it. this feels like the infamous microsoft blue screen when the system hangs. It's probably a software or firmware problem that requires rebooting and that's why it usually takes about 15 minutes or more before it works again. If this theory is correct, it's good news in a way because we probably don't have impending hardware failure. rebooting seems to help. Hopefully it will continue to work as our cars age and that Hyundai will have a fix if it's just system software bug. My fear is the navigation is hard drive based; as you know all hard drive fails. What's going to happen if we keep the car beyond the 3-year warranty period for the Nav.

I've got the 2011 4.6 and I haven't had the no_sound_antenna_error issue, but I have had the XM stop working where the only channel that I could get was the demo channel on 0. While driving I have held the left stereo button in until it powers down (Navi Screen and all) then press it again to power back up. It seems to re-boot the system like a PC. Try this the next time you have no sound and see if it works.

I have had my 2012 4.6 for about two weeks and my first issue was this audio blackout two days ago. I was playing a disc, parked the car and came back after about 20 minutes and all audio was dead, XM, CD, Navigation, etc. I did NOT get the antenna error. Went home and parked for about 30 minutes. Came out and all was well. Last night my wife and I were on the way to the movies and I was flipping back and forth between the Nav and a CD. It froze for a second, made an electronic sound like your old tube style televisions made when you turned them on and off and the screen when blank at the same time and quickly flashed the big "Genesis" while the entire system rebooted. It took about 10 seconds and the CD started playing right where it left off. Very disconcerting. Has anyone even seen a TSB on this audio issue? Is it just the Tech version that has experienced this? If not, we need to notify Hyundai in writing(all of us that have experienced this) so it can at least get on their radar. I don't think talking to the clueless Hyundai service guys will get us anywhere. No way I'm letting Bubba at the dealership play doctor on my Genny guessing at it by replacing parts without a clue. I've read where people have gone through head units, amps, antenna's to no avail.

I agree with you about notifying Hyundai-clearly there is an issue. As i mentioned in my first post, the service guy was going to order me a new antenna. I suppose i should go ahead and have it installed and then if i have the trouble again then perhaps we'll get their attention that it is not the antenna....but maybe it is. So far, since yesterday, it has performed flawlessly. I do think the reboot trick mentioned by an earlier post is something to consider trying should it quite again.
