Not even close - not that I expected it to be. But the level of quality, service and support is not at all what I expected too see for a $54K car - while well under the cost of the real, established luxury cars, it's still an expensive vehicle and they need to up their game (big time). In my circle of friends and colleagues, many in the market for cars like these, Genesis is completly off of their list for consideration.

And, yeah... its been a miserable experience and I never really got to enjoy either vehicle due to nagging issues (big and small). I'm done and an 2018 Audi S5 Sportback is likely my next vehicle - no more wannabe's for me!

Unfortunately, I was ultimately let down and will now spend the extra money to get the build quality and refinement and support experience that I really want.

I agree that folks should buy what they can afford - they just need to understand that there are tradeoffs that come with the lower price and mixed/immature dealer/support model. If you understand that and can live with the tradeoffs, then go for it. I do hope that they up their game as competiton is good.

I totally hear where you're coming from. You've had a worse experience than most. There's no reason you shouldn't feel the way you do. That being said, Genesis cars are there for people who want a similar driving/ownership experience to premium luxury cars without spending the same money. As you mentioned, "they are priced significantly lower than Audi/BMW /Mercedes, etc". For the time being, for some people, Genesis is/will be another stepping stone option for people moving up the automotive ladder. In time, service will improve. Products will improve. Only after that will Genesis be higher in the hierarchy of automotive brands.

Prices have gone up a bit - and they likely will continue to go up as products and services improve. As this money flows in, it'll serve the brand to further improve those products and services. As you mentioned, you can afford the top tier products. Your friends appear to be in the same situation. You've all had a good taste of what it's like to own the very best. Genesis is not prepared to serve that demographic yet. They're working on it. In the meantime, they're here to provide people with a better experience than your common sedan with a 'significantly' lower price than the alternatives...

Just saw all the pix yesterday, I for one am not impressed! The front end is just way too busy (looks like a crappy aftermarket body kit). The rest of the car looks like a 3 series (no surprise there, since the main project manager came from BMW! The interior? Pass! What's with the screen? Like someone forgot about it and just slapped it in there. Sorry, but Hyundai got it right the first time with the Genesis/G80. I love mine and so does everyone that has not only seen it, but rode with me; super impressive!

While their awful sunroof is an option in Korea that is easily avoided, US buyers end up getting saddled with it if they want any luxury touches at all. And it seems to be the same awful design as the 2015 Hyundai Genesis all the way through to the pictures I have seen of the G70. Someone at HMA/Genesis is being incredibly thick headed and stubborn about this. So will I.

In about a year, I will be shopping at the end of my lease. Despite the wonderful service I have gotten from my car, in no way will I buy mine because of the sunroof--it's the reason I leased! The glass panel between the windshield and the movable section will shatter again as it must. Even the best sunroofs are a maintenance and depreciation nightmare in the Houston area.

I'm not confident at all - in addition to the rattling sunroof, I had body panel misalignments that had to be fixed on the 2016 replacement car (where is the factory QC???) and a driver seat cushion defect. The quality is just not there - interior plastics are cheap and easily scratched/scuffed as well. In addition, too many small squeaks are groans from the dash on uneven pavement (in both vehicles and in loaners) for a car at this price point.

While they were nice looking cars with a good feature set, there is a reason they are priced significantly lower than Audi/BMW /Mercedes, etc., - they are not in the same league as those vehicles. Having now cross shopped those brands for my next vehicle, the difference is very obvious - from smaller things like the quality of the switchgear to the quality of the materials and, especially, the fit and finish and refinement of the ride and handling - the G80 is a lesser vehicle.

I also found that the Htrac system exhibits dangerous behaviour of killing the throttle if any bump is encountered on acceleration - it made exiting a parking lot with a small driveway lip and crossing the road very dangerous unless you disable traction control and ESC. This does not happen with the other vehicles I've since test driven.

So, good luck with your Genesis cars - you get what you pay for and I, for one, am no longer willing to live with the significant compromise they bring. The dealer experience is marginal at best and definitely second rate compared to the real luxury brands. After all the crap I've been through, I'd rather pay more and not deal with the "baggage".

As many of my friends/colleagues have said as they've seen my Genesis saga unfold: "What did you expect? You bought a Hyundai. It's an expensive Hyundai - but it is still a Hyundai!".

Audi is at the bottom of JD Powers long term reliability ratings. My wife's Mercedes soft touch and leather interior will scratch and scuff as easily as any. BMW, Audi and Mercedes have problems too, some of which are serious. When the current MB S550 first came out they had so many service campaigns I couldn't keep up. I have read those forums and have many friends with those cars - I realize that defects happen and no brand is perfect but, based on my experience with the 2 G2's I've owned and loaners I've driven, I believe that the panoramic roof absolutely has a design flaw and shame on HMA for not really addressing it! In addition, the dealer and service experience is most definitely a step below the established luxury brands. In the end, the savings was not worth it for me - the current Genesis deisgn, build quality and customer experience is not where it needs to be to keep me as a customer.

The G70 looks to have a different panoramic sunroof design - the rear of the roof is not glass. Hopefully, that will prove to be a better design and eliminate the rattles and groans. I like sunroofs and I've had plenty of cars with sunroofs - the Genesis is, honestly, the first one that had problems!

I don't have a problem with someone wanting or liking a sunroof--to each his own, as they say. What I find intolerable is that someone at HMA/Genesis is a sunroof chauvinist and wants everyone to have one. I will bet good money that the fancy v6 version of the G70 will have the mandatory sunroof.

Most sensible Houstonians buy one car with a sunroof, I've had two and that's one too many.

On to the Stinger. The red one, of course. It appears (pictures again) that it can be had without a sunroof. That red, omg.

Yes, I was told by a dealer that, in the US/NA market, it's a packaging thing. I have no doubt that one could order a full-boat Genesis without a sunroof if one is really patient and willing to pay full-tilt price.

Audi has been known for awhile for having the nicest interiors in the industry. I agree that the G70's interior isn't the most luxurious but neither is the C-Class or 3-Series. Like the G70, those cars are intended for a different buyer than the G80 and G90...

Actually, I'm not sure why there are so many negative reactions to the G70 interior? It looks pretty good to me and I find it to be nicer than the G80 in some aspects: for example, a stitched "leather" covered dash and trim versus the cheap looking and easily scuffed (you need to be careful using sunshades) plastic dash on the G80. Quilted leather seats and door panel inserts are another nice touch. The non-integrated screen is the trend these days and actually does provide a lower dash line and better forward visibility (you really feel like you are sitting down and peering over the dash in the G80/Genesis). I was mixed on that screen setup until I test drove an Audi with it, and have now come to like/prefer it over an integrated screen.

G70 pros & cons

Pro:
1) 3.3 T V6 365HP, 376lb ft
2) Exterior and Interior are about OK, but not the best looking.
3) All features include
4) Nice looking rims with Michelin tires
5) All LED lights

Cons:
1) Length of the car is way too short (184.4 inches)
2) Rear seat legroom is so tight will cause frustrated on long trip
3) Why not a wide 10 inches screen on the dash like bmw? Come on huyndai !!!
4) Climate control could be better without that 3 rolling nobs.
5) The J shape next to climate control is a waste design that leave open space below for nothing and make the storage short.
6) Too much of diamond stitching.
7) The on screen apps look cheap.
8) No red seat on high trim level.
9) Black everywhere interior even the seats.
10) No power trunk open/close.

Im with Nikgen. One of the more appealing aspects of the G70 to me IS the interior. The quilted leather on seats and door panels fits my eye.

IF the performance and value proposition remains I see this selling better than the G80. Proportions remind me of the new 3 series and c class.

OF course there are components that seem to copy both cars along with Q50 however it looks well blended together.

Cant wait to drive both engine variants

When all is said and done, the G70 fits well in it's segment. No car makes everybody happy. I know people who don't like Lamborghini's. I know people who don't like Rolls Royce's. I think they're crazy but my opinion is no more valuable than theirs...
