  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Guys, I'm so mad! Was driving in the middle lane on the turnpike in Miami when a Dump Truck was on the right lane hits a bump and all of a sudden it starts raining rocks! I was planning to pass him. Couldn't move over to the left because there was a pickup truck next to me, so I had to take the hit. 2 rocks chipped the paint right off!!! I then headed straight to the dealer to purchase the touch-up pen (arrives on Tuesday). Does anyone have experience with this? I've never applied the paint before so any tip helps. Also, they gave me the card for their Body Shop expert, is it even worth it to reach out to him? I'm also thinking of getting the bumper and hood wrapped in clear but I'm on the fence since this is a lease (Month old). Attached below are the pictures:

The mark(s) on the bumper will be a problem as it is not metal. It appears there is a bit of gouge of the plastic bumper cover material and no touch up will repair that. To be returned to near new condition I think a body shop opinion should be sought before you address anything yourself.

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. I just got off the phone with their body shop expert and he pretty much told me I was looking at about $600 bucks. They gotta remove the bumper, prep, and all that fun stuff. Definitely don't wanna go that route, and I also feel that's a bit pricey.

Honestly with paint and prep that's not bad at all.

Do you know who owns the truck? It is their liability and should pay for any fixes. Had a similar situation some years back and got a windshield covered by the trucker. They have an obligation to secure the load.

wish I would’ve been able to identify but no such luck.

I'd just use touch up paint for now cause more rock chips are bound to happen. When it gets really bad, then spend the money for a repaint.

This is exactly why I get the front of my cars wrapped including the hood. (Xpel) Have had my last 4 cars front wrapped (one Santa Fe and three Genesis’s). Got maximum trade in on my 2 prior Genesis’s and a lot had to do with the appearance specially the front. The cost of each was less than an equivalent paint job of the same coverage would have been.

Had the same thing happen a few years ago to my Chevrolet SS. I got the the truck to pull over and would not let him leave till the cops got there. The truck / trucker is 100% responsible for any debris coming from their truck. I ended up receiving $5,000 for my car's paint and an additional $5,000 for a diminished value claim.

Proof?

I agree with EdP and PFWiz. These gravel drivers are usually required to cover their loads for safety purposes. If you can somehow identify the truck company, highly recommend to file.

Firstly, those are not advertisements below my blurb. Those are links to the Chevrolet SS forum to the threads where I wrote (years ago) about it happening. So proof was included. (unless you think that as a evil mastermind I set up to lie to you years ago...)
Second, why do feel I have to prove anything to you? Are you the thread moderator? Are there lots of folks making up stories about having to take Carter Lumber to court? Inquiring minds want to know...

No. I was just trying to help out. Sorry. As well, I did not write proof.....

I remember your threads from the SS forum, as I owned a 2017 SS and was on the forum during the same timeframe. Your thread was quite the shit show in the beginning. People lie and over exaggerate online all the time. I'm not calling you a liar, per say. I'm asking you to back up your statement with facts. You most certainly are not obligated to. I'm no one to you.

You have me mixed up with someone else. I just joined Genesis Forums this past Thursday of this week.

Y'all are forgetting this is Miami he is talking about.. You would be lucky if the driver was even licensed. More then likely a crappy dump truck in Miami is uninsured.

Source: I work for a personal injury law firm in Florida, we see stuff like this daily and even with commercial vehicles. You may think I am over exaggerating, but drivers in Miami will legit just smash you for no reason and drive away.

I was part of this not too long ago: Vehicles damaged by I-15 debris after lane changes on highway, drivers say

After researching and looking at the hassle, I decided not to pursue. My car does have a lovely spattering of rocks on the front now and the windshield is pockmarked all over. At the end of the day, I don’t think I’ll get my money/time back in resale value at the end of my time with my car (5-7 years total)

It's unfortunate that you went through that, but honestly, the front bumpers of Genesis vehicles generally get beat-up anyway just from normal road pebbles. Hey, there's a product in there somewhere: "Roadie Pebbles"- for motorcycle gang members who don't want to admit they like "Fruity Pebbles!" The test-marketing footage alone would be comical.

I know it's too late, but get a dashcam. Also, wish I never sold my '16 SS 6MT. *sigh*
