  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

JB4

When I do my pulls, the engine is always warm. No exceptions. And the "waving" is longer than what you have. I'll try to record it tomorrow, if not snowing.
I did some more testing today and I unhooked the JB4 completely from the car. I took it out and experienced no surging/hesitation. So therefore there is something wrong with the JB4 box, firmware, or both.

Yeah. I saw your post on N54tech as well. I really hope they'll fix it soon.

I did some more testing today with the different firmware versions and had the same results. Terry reached out to me and had me only hook up the red/yellow wires on the top of the engine (leave brown and fuel wires unhooked), and that solved my surging issue. He said there are some models he’s having issues with and he needs to work on the tune to get these issues ironed out, but of course he needs one of these problem cars in the shop to see what’s going on.
I may try moving up to map 2 to see if I have any issues there with only the one set of wires connected.

I have run several tests for him, and he also said to me, keep the red/yellow plugged in on the top of the engine. I'd have to check all my logs, but I think, with that "setup", the boost was around 16psi or less. Normally, with both wires plugged, I was getting ~19psi.
i wonder, if they ever WOT their mule/test car or just tuned it on dyno?

So I get that same problem if I’m in sport 2-4 on the pedal commander, and the car is set in eco or normal.

Maybe this might isolate the problem further?

New gv70 3.5t owner here. Appreciate everyone's input on this topic. I'm definitely considering jb4 considering the limited options out there. FWIW, I scoured other kia/genesis forums and see that ECUs are popular options (again, no real options for us gv70 owners at the moment, it seems) and I reached out to Lap3. They are very popular with the 3.3t crowd and others, one of their techs told me that they are working on the 3.5t now but it could be a while yet...sounds like no earlier than this fall/winter

Everyone is saying that, lol Lozic has told me the same thing; they're working on it. In the meantime, I'm rocking JB4 ;)

Well i guess I’m holding off the jb4 till they fix things up or maybe wait for the other tuner to come up with something better I believe the 3.5 has alot of capabilities

I have the 2.5 T and reached out to lap3 and they told me end of year. Saw an earlier post in this thread by someone stating they didn’t want to do an ECM swap. Any idea why?

That's crazy talk! Chip/ecm >>> piggyback. Especially now that you keep your stock ecm and simply swap it out when you take the car in to the dealer for service, etc

I experience the same jerkiness even in map 1 (running 93 octane) when the car hasn’t warmed up completely. Even 1/2 throttle it will buck 3-4 times while accelerating. Once it warms up completely, I don’t experience the jerkiness. Never had this issue on my 3.3t Stinger w/JB4 map 2.

I went ahead and created a install vid of the JB4 in case anyone wants to see what is all involved. If I wasn’t recording, I could have had this installed 30-45 mins. It was rather easy.

So first let me say thanks!! I used your install video from YT to install my JB4, even the fuel connection that's hard to find. I bought my BG GV70 on the 19th of August on purchased my JB4 on the 22nd with hopes that there would be a stable tune by the time I got it installed.

Well good news! Terry over at BMS just released a new Beta tune, V4, through the JB4 app and it's 100% better than V3. He was able to get a tester 3.5L GV70 and iron out a lot of bugs in regard to Maps 1 and 2 so it's way more polished, smooth, and fun. I have a bunch of graphs of my data logs that show clean and consistent pulls with more then 19 PSI of boost. WITHOUT supporting mods.

Just in time for the end of summer, prime time for cool IAT's and hard pulls.

GOOD LUCK AND BE SAFE OUT THERE!!

I contacted Terry on Monday since I went against his advice and hooked up the top connection (left the fuel rail unhooked since it was optional) while I was servicing the car and tried out map2 a few weeks ago. Loved the power increace. Problem I was figting was a CEL P0236 after about 100 miles of driving. Messaged Terry and he informed me of the new firmware, and to hook up the fuel sensor and set the fuel open loop to 50 instead of the 30 it was defaulted to in the app. He’s also sending me the posi taps to correct the issues they saw on the dyno, but honestly I have yet to see that issue after they recent changes I made, so I may not install that ”fix” unless I see those issues crop up. But It’s refreshing to see a person stand behind their product and make decisions that might hurt the bottom line short term but in the long run they will make money and life long relationships.

Oh, good to hear that! Is the "surge, waving" gone when you WOT? I won't be able to test it myself till Saturday night or Sunday.

From my little bit of testing, I have not noticed any surging. Hopefully it stays that way, but only time will tell.

The surging is very noticeable at above 50mph when accelerating hard. It's like rpm's are going up and down. The gas pedal has to be pressed a 100% no less. If you didn't punch it a 100% you won't notice that.
But if that is gone, then it's really good news!

I noticed a little of the surging when the engine was cold today and got into the throttle. I went about 2 miles down the road and went WOT and it was smooth. Did this a couple more times and again smooth acceleration. So I think they may still have a little more ironing out of the tune while the engine is cold, but it seems as the engine gets warm all prior issues seem to be fixed.

I can share my experience on my '23 2.5T with the JB4 and 0-60 runs using the OBDLink MX+ recorder. With only 91 octane available I'm using map #1 and do not have the OBD connection as I couldn't figure how to get it through the firewall. This resulted in a repeatable 0-60 improvement of 1 second,
from 7 to 6 seconds 0-60 times. You can definitely feel the car pull with more authority.

I've since added the JB4 pedal tuner and although I know it doesn't make more power it sure brings the car to life by eliminating the dead pedal. Seat of the pants feel and fun factor greatly improved. I've also noticed it allows me to keep in comfort mode which IMO has shift points better matched to the power curve, the Sport mode forces too much over-rev where the 2.5 drops off in it's powerband at higher rpm's. This combination keeps it in the fat part of the powerband much more consistently.
