If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

JB4

mmmm ok...I'll try that then maybe when its stopped snowing LOL
Also look on YouTube, there was another video a guy did this method. It was a short 10min video

ok, installed and so far no codes - running MAP 2 for now and threw in some Octane Pro and had a tank of 94 RON..

weather is shitty so not right time to test it really plus less than 150 miles on the clock

gave it a little squeeze and felt good

Hey folks. They bought back my lemon 23 2.5T and I upgraded to a 25 3.5T (got a crazy deal on it). I’m going to pick up a new JB4 and use my wireless connector and ODB cable from my 2.5T (also had JB4).
Quick question on the 3.5, I ran map 2 on my 2.5 but see here folks are running map 3 (I run 93 octane pump gas) on the 3.5. I normally drive in comfort mode around town, will there be any impact whether it’s comfort vs sport or sport+ with regards to surging etc?
Also, I no longer need my JB4 that I had on my 2.5, is there a for sale section in the forum? Thanks in advance for the response.

Well... we're waiting for a after action report :)
I'm coming from a CTS V and AMG Mercedes..The 3.5 moves this GV70 mass pretty nicely, but an extra 50/70 hp would be nice. The issue then, IMO would be outrunning the existing brakes..So then you gotta jump down that rabbit hole...soon you would be in BMW M range.

Thinking from a pure numbers perspective, if you’re adding 50HP at the crankshaft it would equate to 40 HP at the wheels (using 20% driveline loss on a AWD vehicle). Overall you’re adding 10% ish more HP, IMO that won’t overload the brakes.

But the issue I see separate from that is adding 100awhp as per the JB4 site shows peak we see the TCU TQ Management yanks that out on the road with road force being applied so the power is weak.

I’ve done 178 Dragy runs with map 1,2,3,4 and used from 93 octane to 100’unleaded race fuel and even the E35 mix on 93 and then again 100 with e30 blend even and the results did not follow the math from the dyno etc.

The cutoff aka peak seemed to be Map3 with 93 and some Boostane or 97 octane total if you will to achieve the best 0-60 and 1/4 times.

Granted I did not try the colder plugs as there were a few times spark would get snuffed as I could see the CEL flicker once the load got heavy when I got into 3rd gear and above which makes sense.

In summary, you want the max feasible power just use Map3 with a proven booster product like VP or Boostane and go for a 97 octane mix and enjoy the car and leave it alone.

Once I got the top dragy spot I gave up as any other power to be had is arrested by the TCU and not the motor.

How are you guys finding the daily driving satisfaction with the most recent firmware ? I'm running map 2 on 91 octane since that's what I can readily purchase, and usually in sport mode. There's quite a bit of surging especially when cold, it's improved over previous firmware but still very present. I've also found that at certain times when I step heavy into the pedal and accelerate hard, then have to let off the pedal sharply to more like trailing throttle, I'll experience very harsh hesitation situations that have made passengers wonder what's wrong with the car. I have to admit I've not been running daily with the CANBUS cable, gonna connect it and see if it makes a difference.

Hey,
Good to hear that feedback.
Let me share some as well.

I always have my OBD2 plugged in and I experience all that same stuff and I use Map3 on 93 daily.

At first I thought maybe I have that fuel pump issue as I feel that dead spot at times and I just feather the pedal to get me out of the lane before I get T Boned.

The surge is still there and I think none of this will be fixed over time as it seems Burger has shielded this project due to lack of a test mule to use.

He will offer to give you custome tunes to try but that will take up lots of your time and trial and error.

It’s time for an oil change so I will remove mine and see how it drives without it to make sure it’s the JB4 100% doing these things.

I also have the whiny steering wheel that’s annoying lol

Thanks for the info. I had the same thoughts and took the JB4 off when it went in for service, including the groaning steering column which they did fix as a TSB. All the symptoms are gone with the JB4 removed. I did offer to take my car back up to Burger, but the response didn't seem they had too much more to offer to refine it. We may be at a point where it's as good as it's going to get, and just live with the nuances for the increased power.

Interestingly enough as a new 3.5 owner (had a 2.5) with 750 miles on the clock I feel surging consistently between 2 and 4 thousand RPM on a bone stock vehicle.

Do you feel that only when the engine is cold by chance ?

That’s when I get it and I also see it in summer but only upon the very first few times I step on the gas when I drive. So technically the motor is still sort of cold even though it’s summer but surges like it does in dead of winter also.
Just lightly lesser.

Does the same while warm. I’ve only had the car a couple of weeks. I’ll check to see if there is a difference between cold vs warm.

I updated my original question to be clear - when the engine is cold as opposed to cold weather. My experience is that the surging symptoms are much more pronounced with the JB4 when the engine is cold. Still present once warmed up, but much less noticeable.

Ditto, you were clear even though I went another step further in another behavior.

Keep in mind this is an undetectable piggy back and not a tune etc.

If you want to put the time in you can send Terry the logs of it and he’ll patch it.

Point to this thread and he’ll clean it up once he’s done with a BMW and JB4Pro tweaking I see he is doing.

Hi folks. Install question on a 3.5. Do I need to connect the harness with the green wire? I’m asking because the factory one has no grey sliding clip in order to remove it and I don’t want to damage it.

Where did you guys get the latest firmware? Latest I could find was V4_5.

4.6 beta is the latest. And on my '25 I connect all of the wires into factory connection with expected clips.

Thanks. I’ll download it once I fire it up. I was able to get the sensor installed. No idea why the locking side was on the bottom lol. Had to use a pair of pliers in order to get it to slide and remove it.

Also, reading this thread in its entirety, if I run map 3 should I select that option 7 and change the fuel loop to 70?
