  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

3.3T Jerky auto transmission (hard downshifts while braking)

Hoping you didn't return it yet.

Decided to play around with the app a bit more today. Noticed there was an update for the Kia diagnostics.

Updated it, manually selected a 2020 Kia Stinger (my year g70) and reset the adaptives. It was successful. Was able to do it multiple times with no faults.

Switched back to the autodetected Hyundai g70 profile, and it failed.

Generally, the kia stinger profile worked for a variety of the special functions, where the Hyundai g70 profile would fail. Another one was calibrating the HUD, which I've been meaning to do since getting my windshield replaced. It would fail with the Hyundai g70 profile, but worked flawlessly with the stinger.

I haven't taken the car for a spin yet but will do so in a bit.
Nothing has changed on my end, same issue :/ I get "test failed", I have tried both the Stinger and the G70 profiles.

Odd. Don't know what changed on my end that makes it work. The only difference from last time was the updated kia profile and I made sure to connect to wifi as opposed to data when loading up the profile.

Given that there's two of us now that have been successful with it, I'd say mess around with it some more. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you lol.

what update have you noticed when you said the Kia diagnostics were updated? I did not see a difference, also did not know that it made a difference that you connect to Wifi, I have to use data since I am in my car and it parked in a building garage away from my home wifi. Unless there is a step at the beginning where you can load up the car profile before connecting to the bluetooth device? Yeah I will keep trying.

Load up the app, hit "all system diagnostic" and scroll down to kia. there should be an update button next to it to update the diagnostic profile. Like how you see it next to Chevrolet in the attached pic.

For the wifi, I'm not sure if that even made a difference. I'm just trying to narrow down what was different between the last time I did it and this time. Usually I'm in the same boat as you, car is too far to connect to wifi, but today I was at my parents and was able to stay connected to wifi in the garage.

interesting, are you on iphone or Android? on iphone the app still crashes every single time I even try to open the "system selection" menu. Good to hear it worked for you :)

Android. It generally seems like the app works better on Android.

If you have an old Android laying around, or even a tablet, give that a shot. Or if there's any family or friends with one.

Very interesting! Can you please try the following: actuate the radiator fan, and have it run at full speed.

Why I’m interested: when I am at the track, I would like to have the radiator fan run full bore for a couple of minutes while I’m in the staging lanes, and suck all the heat from my intercooler, trans cooler, and radiator. Should help with heat soaking.

Just wanted to add... I bought the A30D that everyone said worked on the Stinger. I could not get anything to work for the G70. Everything kept saying not supported. I tried the Stinger, and got further but it kept failing the adaptive reset. I tried everything. Or so I thought. After I read your comment, I made sure to have my phone connected to my home wifi. Once connected, the adaptives reset worked! I did it several times. I had to back out through the menu all the way each time, but it worked several times.

As a side note, I had to unplug my wireless android auto dongle because it kept disconnecting my wi-fi and putting me on mobile data. It never worked on mobile data, but worked every time on wifi.

I know you're talking about thinkdiag but my A30d did the same thing.

Wow, I'm glad that worked!

I'm surprised but I also kind of understand it. With the bigger tablet scanners, including GDS, those needed to be connected to wifi to do the reset (or any special function). It gave a prompt similar to these devices saying it needs access to the network.

Understandably, since gscan and all the bigger tools can only recognize wifi, and the 'special function' probably uses the exact same code/inputs, it fails on these devices because it doesn't defect wifi.

I could be completely out to lunch but that's 2 of us now that had it work after using wifi. I'll try to give it another shot tonight on data and see if it still works.

And yea same thing with the AAwireless. I had to unplug mine to be able to use the scanner.

@Mikey91 you got something else to try now lol!

Good work blokes. Glad to see you find some success. In summary ... seems Thinkdiag 1 is working best when;
  • ANDROID device is running the app with,
  • WIFI connected to it and,
  • UPDATED with latest software.

Tried to find this but couldn't. Will try again tomorrow

I have tried to do the adaptive reset using WiFi earlier since it seemed some of you had success with it.

Used on an Android device, unfortunately I still got the "test failed!" Error.

It's possible the 2022 G70 is still not supported. I have tried on both the stinger and the g70 profiles.

Under ECU, I could actuate the cooling fan PWM. When actuated, it ran at full speed. Also, all of these settings can only be run with ignition on, engine off.

Not sure if that's what you were looking for.

I can also confirm that the adaptive reset was still successful on data using the 2020 Kia Stinger profile.

That is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!

So to summarize:

Use an Android device with the ThinkDiag app
Connect over WiFi (so for my purposes, have my iPhone provide a hotspot for my Samsung tablet to use)
Use the same year Kia Stinger profile (or at least 2020)
Make sure the software is current

Did I miss anything?

Doesn't need to be wifi, atleast for me. It worked today using my phone's data.

And yes, seems like the android app works better. Just make sure you can download thinkdiag on your tablet, cause it doesn't show up on mine.

Otherwise yup you got it! I believe the actuation will work using the g70 profile too. It's the special functions that keep failing.

Thanks for the clarification, I changed my order to thinkdiag 1.
There’s a possibly cheaper option: order directly from the vendor.

Price with all cars is $99

Not compatible with my tablet, so it seems the app is locked to phones only. Have 4 old Android phones (2 LG G2’s, OnePlus 3, Pixel 3), so pulled them all out of the drawer and charging them. See if any power up, get to the App Store, and can run the ThinkDiag app.

Just tried with the iPhone app (was offered one free software package, so chose Kia). Actuation test will not make my radiator fan run, whether it’s 2020 or 2019 set. Have to wait and see if the Android phones work after charging (the LG G2’s both report a bad touchscreen, the others aren’t powering on yet).

A possible explanation why: I had sent a spare ECU to SXTH Engineering to have a stage 1 remap, and sent them my car’s VIN. The latest software will read the VIN - and it’s not my VIN, it decodes to a 2022 G70!
Lame, I’ll have to contact them to see what they say. (In addition to the intermittent P2180 code this reflashed ECU sometimes sets.)

Hope you have better luck with the android version. Do you get an error message on the iPhone or it just doesn't run?

The 2022 ECU might screw you... they're different ECUs and I'm not sure if thinkdiag supports them yet.
