If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I hear the magic date is July 15. By that date, every Hyundai dealer is supposed to have at least one (1) Genesis delivered to them. I hear there are many in the US already, at port, awaiting delivery to Montgomery where they will all be inspected as a final QC before they are delivered on covered luxury trucks to their respective dealers.

Hmm.. Another 45 days or so away.. I hate rushing time but I wish "the date" would get here already..

Our computer system says to expect the first 4 Genesis to be here, at Ed Voyles, on June 30. They are currently on a rail car headed from Portland to Montgomery for final hand inspection and then will be loaded onto enclosed transports and brought here. Big smoky burnouts to ensue.

Yeah, I wish.

EVH, re your 4 due on June 30th, any have pack 5?

Tech pack V6's are called pack 4 now. Tech pack V8's are pack 5. Our pack 4's didn't make it on the train. :( I bet they won't be far behind, though. I think there are 2 pack 3's, one pack 2 and one base.

Hi EVH-

Just a quick question regarding your orders. Have you confirmed the pricing with your district rep? I'm wondering what exactly is the MSRP for each package. I'm interested in getting the technology pack and I found from some places that it would cost only $37,000 (standard + tech pack). Thanks very much for sharing information with us.

Yeah, I wish.

I will be paying the dealer a visit on that day :D

In order to get Tech pack, you have to buy other packs. Tech pack should cost $40k for V6 and $42k for V8. Until I see an actual Monroney label, I will not be able to confirm 100%, but that is my understanding.

BigElm, I am sure I will post as soon as I see the truck pull in, but call first so you don't waste gas if they are delayed for some reason.

^ Absolutely.... thing is, I'll be driving to FL the next day. So hopefully it'll be there before my trip. :)

EVH,

I think the confusion about the pricing that GenSun mentioned is due to some posts by another dealer on another site:

http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f12c019/1755

Start with post #1762. He seemed pretty convinced that the total for a fully loaded V-6 was $37k and that you didn't have to add the cost of each package together. If you follow the string, there was some back and forth on it.

I tend to think that you are correct and that it is $40k but I am crossing my fingers for $37k! :)

If it is $37k, then I am 90% sure I will buy the Genesis. If it comes in at $40k, I think I will opt for the new 2009 Maxima. Smaller, FWD, but all the bells and whistles that Genesis has for around $37k

I get a feeling that the only buyers for the Genesis will turn out to be a few Korean Americans who only buys it out of patriotism. They just screwed it up big time by lying to the public of under 30K starting price and pushing the price up to 33K. I know they dropped the 3.3, but the promise is a promise. When the concept was first introduced, they haven't said anything about the powertrain, and only put an emphasize on under 30K price. Now, they changed it and priced it no better than the Japanese competition. Sure, Lexus, Infiniti and others may be more expensive, but for the price that Genesis have, most of the stuffs are extra cost options, which does not put the Genesis as that much more bargain. All the stuffs that was hyped for this car are part of an expensive option package, which is the same senario for BMW, Merc, Lexus, Infiniti. True, they are far more expensive, but it isn't any better in concept. I had doubts when it was first introduced, I was utterly disappointed when they changed the concept's design into a mishmash of other luxury brands design by ripping them off to come out with a bad copy of others here and there, without any originality, now they played with the potential buyers by lying about the price, I don't think it will sway any non-Korean buyers to shop Hyundai and leave their favorite make. They certainly had the chance when they still had rumors of under 30K pricing, whether it was for 3.3 or not, now, I don't think it will be a success, and will be lucky if it don't get sold to the rental fleets, or gaining dust in the showroom floor, like Sonata's has been about an year ago.

As Korean myself, I actually kinda hoped to see Hyundai to be perceived as a maker who also makes luxury cars in lines of Lexus, Infiniti and other Japanese brand, for I hate the Japanese cars to begin with(due to the history, like most Korean Americans feels) and kinda expecting them to cruise around US streets, to be proud of, so that the Luxury market don't remain as Europe and Japanese playground anymore, but, now, since I don't think they will sell that well, I guess, I may have to forget about that wish. Never a fan of Hyundai or Kia to begin with, but, I expected this would give me some pride by seeing them in the streets of US, I don't think it will happen.

Wow, them's strong words.....
In my opinion the Genesis is quite a good looking car, and from the reviews it has a very nice and quiet ride. It's a large RWD car with all of the luxury amenities of its competitors. Is there another luxury car of this size that comes anywhere close to the price? The closest I can think of is the Infiniti M35 with Tech package with a MSRP of $48K -- $8000 more than the Genesis. I'm strongly considering getting a Genesis. I don't care about the name. I care about the quality, performance, and features that I get for the price.

V6 only. V8 to follow in a few months...

I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for the info.

Normally I'd say this is a mistake, to not launch with the engine that will star in the ads. But in the current climate, people might be most interested in the V6 anyway.

I agree that "lying" is a bit strong. Manufacturers often find they can't hit their target price, and they always state that the price could change. Especially when the price is preliminary and approximate.

I also agree that even the actual price compares VERY well to comparable cars from Japanese and European manufacturers. I created a pricing tool to make the size of such differences clear:

Car price comparisons

The great majority of potential customers will have never heard the original low estimate. They'll just know the actual price. If the car's truly comparable, then the price is a steal. If you (GrandPrix08, not Coug, now) think the price should be lower, then how much faith do you actually have in the car?

The big question, though, is whether any Hyundai, no matter how good, can command a $40,000 price.

If a make wasn't sure that how much will be the price range, I feel they shouldn't have emphasided too much about it hitting under 30K from the beginning. They have been acting like under 30K is pretty much confirmed up until now. They really shouldn't have. That's where I am comming from. The way they acted, seemed like they could easily market the car for under 30K up until the last minute and changed the price altogether. It's like cheating. If they weren't sure that they could do it, they shouldn't have been blobbing(sp?) their mouth about it as one of their selling point like they have been. I just don't like their gameplan that way.

Here is an old clip I found from Youtube. It's not favorable as other reputable medias, for it isn't really a driving impression, but upon seeing it, I doubt that many American Luxury car buyers will be that interested in the car. Maybe a few percentage of Korean Americans who grew up with Hyundai in their youth in Korea. Also, I hate the fact that the trunk openning uses the hinge that could damage the luggages(as I have seen the on the other footage that is out in Youtube), unlike my current Pontiac Grand Prix which uses the struts to hold the lid in place so it won't protrude to the cargo area.

Well, as Korean myself, I WILL be proud if I can see them on the street, but if they don't sell that well, I don't think there is a chance for that for me to see any number of them.

As an old saying, if the expectation is too high, disappointment is even greater.

iPod requires a 30 USD cable called a Hyundai iPod cable. Could cost even less than that though. 08620-2L000 is the part number. This cable fully integrates the iPod with the stereo. It uses both USB and aux inputs and has a dock connector.

Sadly, I find myself quickly losing interest in the Genesis. I don't usually find myself affected by the hype associated with any new car until I see it in person. The Genesis was different for me. I liked the Hyundai ads...I liked the concept. What's not to like about the concept of a high performance luxury car without the luxury car pricing? Unfortunately, it is starting to appear that Hyundai is unable to deliver on the original concept. I wish they could have. I found myself pulling for the underdog as the hype continued; but the current pricing levels overshadow any sentiment that might have affected my decision to buy.

I might go look at the Genesis to satisfy my curiosity if I happen to be driving by a dealership; but I certainly won't make a special trip to see a car that isn't delivering what the corporate ads promised.

Interesting video--I had not seen that one. I thought the man had very little specific or concrete to say though. He did not like the exterior of the car and he didn't like the interior because it was not groundbreaking in any way. Perhaps the Genesis will be disappointing to those looking for the spectacular, but it seems to promise alot to those looking for value.
