My 1st post here...
Just found this site and it's awesome!!!!!

After test driving the V6 then the V8, I got back to the dealer and purchased a V8/Tech Genesis on the spot but will get it in only 10 weeks.:(
I ordered a White w/Black interior, (that's the only interior choice with White in Canada) and to my luck there's only 3 in Canada and they are demo's!

Was wondering if there are other Canadians who have purchased a Genesis. I doubt there will be many.
I'd love to hear from owners who have purchased their car and what experience you've had during winter with it.

Here's what I paid for it and am wondering what other Canadians have paid for theirs.

My OTD price is $56,206.65CDN or $44,527.78USD.
I get at that price:
Mud guards (when available)
Tinted windows
Free maintenance for 2 years!!!
I'm happy about the free maintenance cause I average 30,000KM/year.

A happy new Genesis owner

PS. If there's any tips or anything you owners could tell me I'd appreciate your feedback deeply.
Many thanks in advance

Man, can't wait to get the car now...

Congrats on the new car. What city are you in? I'm in Ottawa and there are several Canadians on this site. Do a search for "canada" to find them. I bought the other end of the Genesis spectrum: base model 3.8 for about $36K plus taxes. Enjoy

Thanks Canadian,
hope you're enjoying the Genesis. When did you purchase it? Are you still satisfied or even more since you purchased it?
You're not far from me, sort of, I'm in Montreal.
Congrats on your purchase too.
How's it been for you so far in the winter. Being a real wheel drive have you experienced some tough starts form a dead stop?
Just curious.

Regards,

In 10 weeks it shouldn't be too much of a problem, heh? Even Montreal starts to warm up by then.

Yes, tough starts from a dead stop are almost impossible to deal with unless...
You take advantage of the pseudo-manual tranny (Shiftronic). At a dead stop, slide over and put it in 2ND. Takes enough off the rears to get you going just fine. Then, either stay in Shiftronic and upshift or slide over to drive once you're moving. Play around with it and find your comfort spots. Also works great for coming to a stop without ever touching the brake pedal.

(I'm sure others will respond that winter tires are a MUST. I agree they'd help, but this Chicago winter has been pretty brutal and (now that I know what I'm doing after 25 years in FWD or 4WD) and I'm fine with the Dunlops.

Congrats!

Considering winter tires are mandatory in Québec it's not really something he'll have to debate for long.

I got mine on the third of December and, although the car was driveable on the stock Dunlops, I was quite glad when my snow tires made it in to the dealer and were installed. Traction control works very well and I haven't had to do anything special to get going safely on any stop. The limited slip differential on the V8 really help with that too.

You can find the details of my purchase in the thread dedicated to it (http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=392).

I got my 4.6/tech, titanium grey/black in the middle of January and I love the car! Live in Toronto and found that winter tires were a must, especially on hills. I've had rear wheel drive forever, that last being a BMW 330i, and the genesis is not quite as good on snow and ice. I got 17 inch Yokohama IG20's on alloy rims and the car is much better.

I think you will really enjoy this car. Smooth acceleration, great ride (no suspension issues), and lots of toys. I don't miss the BMW at all. The luxury of the finish and the quality of the paint job is superb.

Have fun!

Guys,
Thank you all for responding and for the tips you shared. I truly appreciate it.

BacktoHyundaibychoice,
Ya 10 weeks, I'm already dreaming about the car and it's been only 2 days!
I don't know how I will do it!
I dread the snow with a real wheel drive...this is my first and will no doubt be putting on snow tires. As Gimli stated, it's mandatory here in Quebec.

Gimli,
Thanks for your feedback. I will definately look at what people are paying.
I got the 2 year free maintenance deal only. Like you they would not budge on the Gen cause there's none and there's a demand for them.
I don't care I got a great car for the price, and that's bottom line for me.

New Passenger,
You put 17" tires on the V8? Man am I happy to hear that. The dealer told me that he tried 17" rims and they did not fit cause they were touching the brake system!
I have 4 Winter tires size 235/55R17...do you know if these will work/fit? Man, I sure hope so...
Thanks in advance

Regards,

congrats! I live in toronto and I am also interested in the v8 model... but it seems to be hard to find dealers have V8 demos. I really want to test drive one...

I believe the tire size is 225/55 - 17. The rims could be a problem, the first set sold to me would not fit over the massive front brake pads. A second set of rims with a wider clearance (the spokes curve outwards a little more) left a paper-thin clearance over the front pads, but they work great with no problems so far.

I believe Toronto Hyundai, has, or at least had, a model to demo. Sang, my salesman, actually drove the car to my house for me to test drive.

QCTLG,
I'm from Montreal too - the West Island, to be more precise. Moved to Ottawa 2 yrs ago. Got my car in December and am very satisfied. I haven't made up my mind about the suspension yet. I do find it somewhat rough/bouncy on bad roads but I'm probably oversensitized from reading all the debate on this forum. Winter driving with RWD takes some adjustment. See the attached thread for mine and others' comments. Main issue is starting from a dead stop on ice/snow. In addition to the suggestion to start out of 2nd gear using manual mode, I turn off the ESC for a few seconds. As mentioned, the 4.6 may not have the same issue with the limited slip differential. As for tires, I also have Yokohama IG20's. If you downsize to 17" rims, be sure they are installed and tested on the car before you buy. I've heard there aren't many that fit over the brakes. If it makes you feel better, seeing my new car covered in snow, slush and salt inside and out makes me wish I got it in the spring. I can't wait to wax it. A la prochaine

Hi everyone! I too just purchased a 4.6 premium non-tech out here in Alberta. It is a Cabernet Red unit. Love the car alot. I too have just ordered tires ,but I am going with the Nokian WR G2 All Weather Tires so I don't have to swap at all. I have these tires on my wifes 09 Corolla XRS and they transformed her car's winter handling and traction immensely. I am a loyal Nokian tire guy as I have had them in other past vehicles and have recommended them to family and friends. The WR G2's have a 50 000km treadlife warranty as well and have the severe weather emblem.
I will be getting these tires mounted on Saturday AM and it looks like there will be fresh snow next week to give them a test.

New Passenger,
I will be looking out for 17" rims to make sure they fit. If I can save some $$$ on winter tires and just need to buy rims, I'll be happy.
My winter tires are pratically new.

Canadian,
I live on the Candiac on the South Shore.
I agree and hope that ALL the snow will have melted by the time I get my car.
Thanks for your comments.

Rob B,
Please keep me posted on how you find the rear wheel drive experience in the snow.

Thanks all for responding

Yo QCTLG :welcome:

You from Montreal Dude

I have had my 3.8 Gene since the first of October and it realy ROCKS

I had some 18" winter tires instaled on the original rims and it looks awsom!!!

I was dissapointed the first few snowfalls, but it was just me that was not used to the car

You can not push the car on a slipery surface from a dead stop, it will just stay there. But after a few days, you get the feel of the car and it realy get to be fun. All you have to do is point the front wheels where you want to go and you can gradualy floor it. It will go were you want it to go.

Now I feel like if I was driving my old Ranger pick up and always trying to fishtail the end, even if you cant.

Lots of fun in winter, even more fun on dry country road.

You will realy love this car

Have a nice day

QCTG;
You are really going to like the white with the black interior! When you pick it up you will see what I mean, as it is going to look even better in person than you can imagine. That color combo is what I have and you are the only other one that I have seen on this forum that has it.

jake the snake,
I have a feeling I'll be having trouble when I try in the snow for the 1st time. I'm only getting my car in May so I won't have to worry about for a while.
I take it your from Montreal too?
Ciao, Ciao

rpenland,
I had looked at your photo album and it was painful cause I just wanted to be there to admire it LIVE.
Your pictures are also very clear and I really get a good idea of what it will look like.
You must be in the US cause the interior in Canada is a little different. Yours is truly ALL black inside vs. the Candian version having where the wood trim is on the other models, it is replaced with a reddish, brownish leather...my wife and I found it classy looking.
I can't believe the fit'n'finish of this car.

Damit only 9 weeks and change to go...
all of a sudden I can't wait to part my WHITE Azera! she just doesn't turn me on anymore...

Regards,

He is in the US but that's not why he has the woodgrain dash and door accents. His is a V6, yours a V8. The V6 get the woodgrain dash and door accents, the V8 get leather dash and door accents.

Yes, I am in the US (Georgia) and I do have the V6. However, mine is truly all black and does NOT have the woodgrain dash or inserts on the sides of the doors. Instead it has the black leather inserts both places. If you get the V6 with the Premium or the Tech package it has leather inserts.
I am not sure about Canada now, but in the US these inserts were originally all brown leather in both the V6 models with the leather inserts and the V8. In approximately November of last year they starting making the black inserts available.
Congrats QCTLG you will truly love your car!

That's interesting. Someone up here posted pictures of his V6 w/Tech and it had the woodgrain accents. Might be a subtle difference betweent he Canuck and the American models.

It's the same here. Got mine in December and it had the all-black treatment while the V8 demo I test-drove had the saddle brown leather inserts.

In Canada you can get fake wood, fake wood or fake wood.
Any package you chose comes with fake wood.
I own a v6 w/tech and this is what my interir looks like
I find it look cool:cool:
