  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm expecting delivery next weekend as it's currently "at port" according to the dealer. I can't wait to get it! Black on Cashmere. Paid a bit under invoice so I'm satisfied.

Prior to putting pen to paper, I also considered: BMW 5-series (535i new and '07 530i CPO), Audi A6, and Infinity M35.

This forum has been an extremely helpful source of info all round. Thanks a bunch!

Sweet! Come back and give us a report when you get it. Don't forget to check your tire pressure before driving off the lot... Many dealers "forget" that in the PDI.

Thanks! Will definitely do that...

Any other new owner tips?

Yeah, don't listen to the 'whiners' that will tell you that you should have bought some other car--Lexus, MB, BMW, etc., and whatever story they will have to supposedly support their position. I bought my Gen in Aug. 08 (V6 Premium Plus pkg.) and I've enjoyed the heck out of it the ENTIRE TIME!! It's a great car, and certainly at the right price!

Enjoy your car...you'll love it!!

Thanks, Dan! That's great to hear. I'm sure I'll enjoy it too. Now I'm impatiently counting the days...

In the end, the decision came down to Genesis vs. 5-series. The BMW (admittedly for me the only car brand that evokes a positive emotional reaction independently of the actual car) had that "riding on rails" solid feel going for it, but really in all other respects I liked the Genesis at least as much. And the handling on the Genesis is quite good, too, much better than I expected.

It also helps that I'm pretty happy with my current Hyundai dealer. I'm not there much at all except for scheduled maintainance on a Sonata, but it's a well-run operation with a decent waiting room (big flatscreen TV, fresh coffee machine, free internet terminals, etc). The service manager has even thrown in some freebies in the past (waiving labor, free oil/filter, etc.) if I had to wait too long for service. The Genesis sales process has been pretty easy and low-key, as well.

I look forward to seeing how the HMA/Genesis story unfolds. After test driving the Genesis (four times!), I'm very happy to play my (very, very) small part in its success...I guess, 0.1% this month and about 0.01% annualized!

My younger brother who lives at my house owns a 535 ('08 model) that is parked beside mine in the driveway on a daily basis. I'm here to tell you that other than the name plate, the two are hard to tell apart! For mostly similar features (his doesn't have leather interior, etc.) he paid $20K more....translate that to mean I still have the $20K in my bank account! Don't get me wrong--his car is nice. This is his 3rd or 4th BMW--but it's not $20K 'nicer'!!

Again, congratulations, and enjoy!

I own a 2009 v8 Genesis, but I dont believe it compares to the BMW when it comes to drivability which is the most important aspect an a car. If this is your main consideration get the BMW. If you are looking for a luxury car that is economical then the Genesis fits the bill perfectly.

I really miss the way my BMW drives, but in this economy I did not want to spend the premium for it.

Make sure you take an extensive test drive of "your" Genesis BEFORE you sign the papers. Several people have had bad experiences, after delivery, and have been unable to rectify the problems with the dealer. You'll find several topics about suspension issues on this site. Read them and be informed.

What suspension issues? ;-) Just kidding...

Good tip. I'll definitely report back on how my Genesis drives.

Also, check the tire pressures. Hyundai over inflates the tires from factory to compensate for the long haul trip across the ocean. On average, its something like 20psi OVER the recommended level of the tires. The ideal pressures should be label on the side of the tires themselves. So if the dealers havent done so, make sure to adjust the tire pressure accordingly.

Over inflated tires have a great impact on the drive of the car.

I believe that the tires specify the maximum tire pressure on the sidewalls, not the ideal. The ideal is based on a number of factors that only the vehicle manufacturer can specify.

You think ConceptVBS meant to say that the correct (recommended) air pressure is located on the label on the door jamb? I doubt he meant the pressure numbers located on the tire. Which was correctly stated by Mark 888 as the maximum value to safely operate the vehicle.

I finally picked up my Genesis this morning! After taking it for a test drive, I gladly sealed the deal. Such a SOLID car. For the first time, I listened to music from an USB memory stick and was amazed by the incredible sound quality. Wow!

The dealer washed/waxed the car for me, which made the black paint look absolutely phenomenal. Grabbed a couple slices of free Domino's pizza while I waited, which capped an already positive dealer experience. And then I rode off solidly and smoothly into the sunset...well, actually, it was around noon, but you get the idea.

Awesome!
Congratulations on your car. Boy did you get a good deal. Under invoice is great, I wish dealers in LA would do that. The car is in such demand here that I can barely get under MSRP. Anyway, congrats! Have fun driving it.
