In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Just wanted to say hey to everyone. I bought a 2013 3.8 Genesis fully loaded (Tech package) on Saturday. It is black with saddle interior (or doo-doo brown as my wife and girls call it). It was the color combination I wanted and fortunately it was the best conditioned vehicle of the 6 at the dealership so my wife could not say no :-).

It's a CPO with 22K miles and the great thing is the in-service date was in April of 2014. I purchased the bumper-to-bumper extended warranty on top of the powertrain CPO. I initially said no to the sales manager twice then at the last second before signing he brought the cost of the warranty significantly so I agreed. And honestly I was going to do it regardless due to all the electronics.

It has a few chips, scratches that need to be addressed. I'm going to take it back to the dealership (2 hours away) for a full detail within this month. I have compound polished some of them with my orbital and for the most part they went away. But, being a black car I realize imperfections will be more noticeable (used to have a black 335i).

It is a joy to drive and just speaks quality. After oxy cleaning some weird makeup type "dirt" off of both pillars under the seatbelt recepticals the interior is immaculate. I have a badge kit on order. Couple of questions...

Does or did anyone else's leather smell "different"? It's hard to explain but it smells different from the leather in my wife's Grand Cherokee.

Does anyone drive in sport mode often without manually switching gears? (I assume the only way to get out of eco mode is by shifting the lever over to manual/sport mode)

I already blew the 25A white fuse that fronts the two cigarette lighter and 12V/iPod fuses. Is the only way to not risk doing this again by unplugging devices before turning off car? Still not sure if I was overdrawing juice using a combination of the three sources or really what I can connect and not connect and when.

Finally, one wheel has curb rash. I bought the only Hyundai touch up paint pen at AutoZone code K1 bright silver (M). I believe KM hyper silver is the specific color, but does anyone know if this is close enough?

Anyways, I love everything about the car. It is sexy, fun, and luxurious. Sorry for being long-winded. I will post pics when the weather improves.

Congrats on the purchase!
If the 25a fuse you replaced is in the engine compartment, it's for the ACC Socket Relay but I don't see a reason that a couple of 5v 1-2 amp units should trip this fuse. If it continues I would think the relay would need replacing.
The ECO mode basically short shifts the transmission lowering shift points, softens the gear transition, lightens the A/C duty cycle and locks the converter earlier to give you better fuel economy. I think it also limits throttle input and downshift levels. It drives like an old luxo boat with a smooth as silk gear change but is a little slow to react. All that is fine by me as I don't use the car as a rally machine and generally am no longer an aggressive driver.
In order to turn off the ECO mode hold the disp or reset button down until it changes to off.

Congrats from North Carolina Boomer! Sounds like you got a nice Genesis. Post a pic of it. I'm a new owner to, picked it up last Saturday also. It's a 2013 Cabernet Red Pearl 3.8 tech pkg. It's CPO car with 36K

dhall...You didn't happen to get yours in Hickory did you?

The 2013 3.8 Genesis has great consumer reviews on credible car review sources. Congrats! Post images when you get a chance.

Just rebadged trunk tonight. My thumbs are sore/blistered from rubbing glue off. Took a good 30 mins even with googone. After getting it off I compound polished and waxed the spot then put the new badge on. I also installed new hub covers and steering wheel badge. She is fully Genesis now.

I still am curious if anyone else's leather smells different from the leather on your other cars?

Will have pics soon...Gotta figure out how to attach them too.

You are probably OK, but if you ever do that again, probably not a good idea to wax the paint where you are going to stick the badge on.

Normally, the glue comes off easier with a little heat from a hair dryer, but obviously not so much heat that it might damage the paint.

Is that because the layer of wax may keep the badge from adhering completely? And I did use a hairdryer, maybe not enough out of fear of damaging the paint.

Yes, the whole purpose of wax is make the surface slick, and to keep stuff from sticking to it. But I wouldn't worry about it unless the emblem starts to come off.

Congratulations. I bought my 2013, 3.8 with 27k miles on it. Only real trouble I have had was the transmission had to be replaced at around 55k. From what I read a lot of the transmissions in that particular car were problematic. Dealer replaced under warranty and no problems since. I have 83k miles on the car now and it's as smooth and solid as the day I bought it. I have noticed the leather has a different smell than what I would consider a "typical" leather seat smell. Doesn't bother me though. I use Lexol to keep the leather clean and conditioned. Being a mfg. rep I pretty much stay on the road and can consistently count on 28-30 mpg on the highway. If all holds up I plan to keep it until at least 150k miles. I just love my car and I'm sure you will feel the same way about yours.

Good to hear Skacatz. I am used to the smell and I had a friend who agreed it was just another type of leather smell..."finer leather". Does anyone else's cold idle rpm hover around 1200 until the engine warms up then drops to 700 or so? It's also a little rough when around 1200. I love the car. Smooth and tight. Gets looks too. Not many here in Johnson City. I have averaged upward of 31-32 on hwy. Mine has the Michelin energy tires though so that may be part of it. I will post pics soon.

I was in there right after you. My wife wanted your car color...lol.

The Lexol product I use on my seats has a clean, leathery smell to it. Available in most auto parts stores/discount stores. You should give it a try. Cleans and conditions without making the seats so slick you'll slide off.

I have blackfire detailing/interior products plus Meguiars leather care. I may try the lexol product though to see if it has different results. Thanks.

Mine still has the OE Michelin Energy Savers to Boomer. Tires still look good with plenty of tread even with 36k. But having a issue with some annoying road/tire noise though. Had the dealer rotate and balance them and do a alignment. Thought that had solved the problem, smooth, quite, no vibration, and no road noise(from what had felt like left front). Going back home on Interstate 40 I was a happy camper for a little while anyway, than about halfway home the tire noise started again. Don't make sense to me how the noise was gone for 40 or 50 miles but started up again. A lot of the info I've read here points to the tires as the culprit because of the harder compound of the ES tire for better gas mileage. Members here who say they were having some of the same problems recommend a half a dozen different tires that seemed to solved most of the problem. Are you having any of the same issues. Other than this I have no complaints, love the car. The dealer also said it was a good idea since being a direct injected engine to run a bottle of good injection cleaner through it about every 7500 miles just as preventive maintenance.

Skacatz, see that you have a Cabernet Red Genny to. Yeah that color with the tan interior is a color combo that's hard to beat.

I also have the Michelin Energy Savers on my 2016. After 20,000 miles we have determined that the road surface is what makes the noise come and go.
I am not referring to general road noise, but the wa=wa=wa noise. I can't tell when it will make the noise or when it won't, but I can hear it change when the road surface changes. There are some sections of a local interstate that we know when the noise will start and when it will go away.

My ES tires are quiet at least to me, but I do hear them. My comparison cars are a Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, and Yukon so they sound quiet regardless. But, I also think part of it is because the cabin is so freaking quiet due to a lack of engine noise you hear the tires more than you normally would. I had read some complaints about left front tire noise before I bought the car when doing my research. I think it was a variety of tires but I may be wrong. I just wonder if it is due to where we sit and if we rod in another seat we would hear the tire we are closest to...just a thought though. I will probably replace these with DWS 06 tires when these wear out. But that hopefully will be a long time from now since these only have 23k on them. I will do the injector cleaning soon and start it on a regular maintenance interval.

I'm now trying to figure out my paint code actual color for some touch up work. It is listed on the vehicle as YB6, which I believe is Capsian Black Pearl for 2013. But it is coming up on some sites as not available (cbp) for that model year and others as running from 2013-2016. Other sites have YB6 starting in 2014 as Onyx Black Pearl. Then there is another black metallic color associated with the YB/YB6 code. Gets confusing. But I think I'm just going with the Caspian black.

I have a 2013 Tech Pkg Black/Black and the color code on mine is AF. One of the sites (Paintscratch.com) calls it Phantom Black Pearl AF/S3B/S3/S5B another (automotivetouchup.com) calls it Black Noir Pearl AF.
From another site (paintref.com) it lists Phantom Black for the years 2009-2012 and Black Noir for 2013.
Autobytel and CarsDiect lists the 2013 Genesis as available in 2 Blacks, Black Noir Pearl and Caspian Black.
It's all very confusing and I wonder if it's not a name change and the colors may be the same.

Confusing indeed! Yes, I have the tech package with saddle interior. It gets confusing as well because I believe there were different color schemes for the coupe when compared to the sedan...but I may be wrong on that. Anyways, using your Autobytel and CarsDirect info I'm going with my original plan of Caspian black.

On another note, does anyone know if the nav screen protective cover can be replaced? Mine was scratched by the previous owner and it sticks out like a sore thumb...

I bet you would have to buy a new navigation system and they aren't cheap. $3000 to $3500 range I think. OUCH!!
