  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I love the look of this car and have since they were born back in 08. Just wanted to see if what i paid was on par, which it doesn't matter, the car looks great inside and out and also anything I should look out for. Should I try and get an extended warranty or just save up for big repairs?

2009, Sedan 3.8
92000 miles
Black on Black
$12900

Thank yall and its good to be here.

I'd get the extended warranty. You'll sleep better at night. I've heard too many horror stories on this forum. Like 10-13 grand for a new transmission etc.....nope nope nope lol.

Nice car, enjoy it!

How long will your extended warranty last? Mine only covers the car until it has 100,000 miles. You have 92,000 already.
It will be over 10 years before I turn 100,000 miles.

Cant get HPP which I already knew. I'm talking about 3rd party, Carchex, Endurance, etc. I can get 2 year, 24k with Carchex for 1900, 3 years 30k miles for 2900 with Endurance. Both are their best plans, Titanium and Superior. I know its a crap shoot with all the reviews I have read with the "gasket failed not the motor which caused the motor to blow" so its not covered reasons all over the place. I don't know if no one is getting service and help or if they are they just aren't putting it in the reviews with their service. I just cant find where people are giving good reviews even if they are being helped successfully. I know I rarely give out my experiences good or bad just because I don't think about it.

Thoughts, concerns, I'm an idiot?

Preciate it.

I bought an 09 3.8 18 months ago, premium plus w tech for $14,300. It had 64k miles and I did purchase a Mercury Platinum warranty for an additional $505. It was 3 years or to 100k miles. Great ride but did have the HECU unit go south, and the dealer will not repair it if you're outside manufacturers warranty (like mine, which is crap cuz the dealer knows they are faulty). Interesting point... Dealer said it would cost me $2600 but the warranty stepped up but only paid the dealer $1500 and I paid em $100 and no more...go figure. That been its only issue... Love the car...I've owned several BMW's a Mercedes and a Jag, only car that came close was the 7 series bimmer. You got a fair deal and I would not pay 2 to 3 grand for a warranty. Service it and drive the wheels off it... you got a premium car for a compact price, enjoy.

Thank you for the heads up. Good to know.

One other thing about our 09 model...It was the first year of the Genesis and generally buyers shy away from the first year of a new model and let the builder work the bugs out... but a survey of repairs needed by year of the Genesis was done here on this forum and the 09 faired considerably better than the 2010 model. FYI

The 09 does surprisingly well on number of service/warranty claims compared to other car models fist year of production. There is a list floating around on the forum somewhere comparing the Genesis years.
