  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After getting used to the roominess and sitting so high above the road (compared to the GC 380GT I traded in), I'm loooooving this car.

It IS a luxury car, but at the same time so fun to drive. I didn't like the design of the rear of the initial Genesis sedans, but I love how they re-did it on this one. I got constantly looks all the way from the dealership.

Did any of you guys get any of the other options? I got the wheel/tire warranty, extended warranty and yes, I got the Teflon paint treatment.

Congrats on the new ride. What color did you get? Post some pics when you slow down...

Awesome! Congratulations!

I got the black. I should be taking some pics today or tomorrow.

Fantastic choice ;) The black on this car oozes class. Congratulations on the new ride.

Awesome! Welcome to the club!

Can you offer some details on warranties and paint treatment?
What Teflon treatment does and what is the cost?
Is there an advantage vs regular wax?

Did you cross shop at all vs. the V8 or the previous V6's? I'm itching to know the new V6 numbers and if it's that much different in 12 vs. the 4.6...

Congrats and enjoy!

The main advantage of the Teflon coating (from the dealer perspective) is that the money slides out of your wallet into the dealer's pockets with much less friction than before.

It's a great product, also from the dealer perspective. It's invisible, the customer can't tell whether it's been applied or not, and the profit margin is in the 100% range.

Laugh all you want about the Teflon. We'll see if it holds as well as they say. It's a lifetime thing if it doesn't and I paid the employee price for it with no tax. In fact, I didn't get charged taxes for the warranty or tire/wheel plan either (and paid the employee price for those as well).

I went in knowing which trim I wanted. I had a deal from the same dealer I bought my GC 380GT from, but they only had one Premium in the color I didn't want and the sales manager had been driving it around.

When I brought this one back from my (solo) test drive, it only had 20 miles on it.

I bought the 6 year/75,000 mile extended warranty. Basically, if anything goes wrong with the car for the next 6 years, I can bring it in to be fixed and pay no deductible.

The same for the tire/wheel plan. You damage a wheel, or tire, you bring it in for replacement. I specifically asked does that included curbing a rim and they said yes. I asked them to put it in writing. Damage to the wheels and tires get free replacements for 5 years and unlimited miles. Original wheels of course (invalid if you replace the wheels or tires).

The Teflon treatment supposedly bonds to the paint to create a nigh-frictionless surface. It keeps the factory-new gloss for as long as it holds and removes the need to wax the car. Again, we'll see. I paid $400 for the treatment. If it works, yay. If not, oh well.

They also offered sealing the under-carriage and rust-proofing the wheel wells. Wasn't interested in that. If you get any of these warranties, ask if you can get the employee discount. This dealership bent over backwards for me since I was buying their first Premium 2012. Again, no taxes on any of the warranties/plans with the employee discount on top.

If it makes you feel secure and better about the car, that's all that matters. One can not put a price on that feeling. I would suggest maybe checking out some clear bra to protect the front.

I will always wonder how they get Teflon to stick to the paint.

The main thing is you are happy with the Car and Dealer, any problems you encounter will be an opportunity for Hyundai and the Dealer to earn your repeat business.

Eh, the Teflon thing probably will wear off after a few washes, true. I can either A) keep getting it re-applied or B) eventually get a clear bra/venture shield treatment.

Can you get your whole car venture shielded?

Actually, any good quality polymer car wax that is applied to previously unwaxed paint is very hard to completely remove, even if it no longer completely repels water. Auto paint shops have to use special chemicals to remove polymer car waxes.

The stuff on your car is no better than a high quality polymer car wax that you can purchase at Walmart for $15 (that will do quite a few waxes). Obviously, the labor for a polymer car paste/liquid wax job (apply and then wipe off when dry) is worth something, but your dealer probably just used the kind that is sprayed on to wet car and doesn't need wiping off (if they actually even did it), and doesn't last as long as the kind you have to wipe off. These kind of spray waxes are also available at car washes.

Here is some info on "teflon" car wax and other polymers:

You can, but it will cost a ton. I got a "full front wrap" covering the entire hood and front fenders, instead of the "leading edge", which covers the front third of the hood plus bumper. The cost was $1200, but the film has saved me 3 trips to the body shop in about a year, and I do not have the visible line across the front of the hood where the "leading edge" application stops. This line is less visible on lighter colored cars, but sticks out like a sore thumb on black.

My tech had just finished a full body wrap on a new Porsche GT2 RS ($245,000 car) - I think the price for that was around $3,000.

congrats on the new ride...I bought the extened warranty too but decided NOT to buy the tire/rim insurance or the paint treatment. I love all of the whiz-bang electronics but I worry about how robust this elecronic stuff is. I checked out the MB E350(used '08 for 36K) prior to buying the 3.8...still prefer the Genesis at it's price.
