  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know how quiet the new v6 and v8 Genesis are?

I'd like to compare them to the following cars: :)

2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R with sound levels:
Sound level @ idle (dB) 38.7
@ Full throttle (dB) 72.7
@ 70 mph cruise (dB) 64.1

Lexus LS 460

Sound level @ idle (dB)37.2
Full throttle (dB)68.3
70 mph cruise (dB)62.5

2011 Equus:
Sound level @ idle (dB) 39.5
@ Full throttle (dB) 72.4
@ 70 mph cruise (dB) 61.4

2009 Genesis V6 Sedan:
Sound level @ idle (dB) 39.6
@ Full throttle (dB) 70.8
@ 70 mph cruise (dB) 63.5

2012 Buick Verano Turbo

Sound level @ idle (dB)40.8
Full throttle (dB)70.2
70 mph cruise (dB)61.8

I currently own a Verano and would like to upgrade to a v6 AWD Genesis in a couple of years when people start turning them in from their leases for a 25%-50% price reduction. :D

For the 5.0 model, from Car & Driver:

Idle: 39dBA
70 Mph Cruise: 70dBA

I tested mine at 100 KM/h and it was 74 dB. Most of it was road noise from the low profile high performance tires, I believe.

Other peeps will give/are giving you the numbers, and that's good, but the experience is what REALLY matters.

The quiet inside is unbelievable. REALLY, REALLY quiet. Truly a cocoon. And the engine is so quiet ... I CONSTANTLY forget to turn it off when I get out as it doesn't make enough noise or vibration to remind me it's ON!

Love her!

+1. I also agree with simplyaddo in saying I believe most of the noise is the tires.

The 3.8 v6 I just got has the quiteset idle that I have ever experienced in a car. Also the lack of vibration for an ICE is truly remarkable...

If you guys want quieter tires check out the Pirelli CINTURATO P7 ALL SEASON PLUS. They are rated #1 at the tire rack. I plan on buying some in minus two size (16") for my Verano.

It's so quiet I could hear my pulse

^ +1 on the new 2015
