If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm new to the Genesis arena and I plan be a new owner in the near future. I'm looking at 1st gens in particular.
What are the main differences between 2009-2011 and the 2012-2014 models?
Headlights and tails I've noticed, rims as well. Any other major or minor cosmetic differences? Also any info on the different tiers of tech packages and how to determine what tier package is on any given Genesis?

Thanks guys!

Compare all years here. http://www.hyundaiproductinformation.com/misc/archives.asp

before 2011 Genesis did not have smart cruise control. At least up to 2012 the V8's have better headlights and brakes, larger wheels more chrome trim to name a few. Starting in 2012 Hyundai uses its own 8 speed transmission. The ride improved as the model years went on.

I would advise a low mileage 2014 model, with the Tech package, from a Hyundai Dealer that is Certified Pre Owned. These are the only "used" one with the full 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty, on the engine. Also think about an extended warranty that covers everything for 10 years/100,000 miles.

Hi there everyone.
I just bought a 2011 3.8 V6 with Premium package.
84,000 kms or about 50,000 miles.
Silver in colour, and in the years since new has never been on the road during Winter.
I was too cheap to put snow tires on for about 8 weeks of driving as I head off South for the month of March.
I kills me to see it sit in the garage but my understanding wife lets me drive her car or drops me off at work.
I did have it undercoated and have rebadged trunk and added wings to the hood.
Am waiting for the 18" wheel centers to arrive and the steering wheel wings.
I love the car and cannot wait to take it on it's first real road trip.
Everything has been detailed, even did the leather inside.
I look forward to participating in the forum discussions.

I just bought a 2012 4.6 w/ 50k miles and it has the 10yr 100k mile drive train warranty.
Also, I every review I could find on the Genesis and a common belief was that 2012 was the year that they worked out all the "bugs" from previous models, just opinions, but it was a common one

Quick question. I'm torn between 2 vehicles and I'm unsure of the differences in tech between them.
Genesis 1 is a 2013 3.8 loaded with all options.
Genesis 2 is a 2012 3.8 and has everything genesis 1 has but no Lane departure warning feature and no TFT LCD cluster in the dash. If the vehicle is missing these features are there any other features it may be missing also?
Im still a bit unclear about the different tech packages and what's included with them. Would both cars' sound system and speakers be identical? Are there any other options that were only included along with the lane departure warning system or TFT LCD cluster?

I hope that was clear. Thanks.

There are 3 option packages:
1. basic has no nice big LCD.
2. premium has a touchscreen system.
3. tech has the DIS system (not touch) with the big wheel in the center console.
Also, even if you have the best package (tech) years up to 2012 don't have bluetooth streaming. It was added in 2013 model version.

My advise is don't look at a vehicle before 2013 and if you buy premium/tech get one with extended warranty since the tech is way too expensive to replace out of pocket.

Awesome. Thank you very much.
I called 2 Hyundai dealers and no one had the answers I was looking for.
You've been a great help. Thanks again.

If the V6 version has enough horsepower for you I'd say get a 3.8 with the technology package (be sure is has backup camera, lane departure warning, navigation, adaptive cruise control) and probably the 2012 model, otherwise ge the 4.6 or 5.0 V8 model in the same year, 2012.

I just bought a 2012 CPO 4.6, my opinion is that the 4.6 is a no brainer, it gets the same mileage as the 3.8, it comes with everything standard, and no add-on packages are even available. I did get the extended warranty plus wheel and tire coverage, and I got it for 20k w/ 53k miles and as clean as new

I've had the car a few months now so here's some pictures.
I've done a few simple mods.
Window tint, re-badged the entire car, and added a trunk lip spoiler.
Thanks everyone for all the info!

Nice and congrats!
If you're interested, I have a perfect set of extra wheels with snow tires and "Covercraft Custom UV Shield Sun Shade" for sale.
I traded in my 1G for '15 2G and those things will not fit. I live in SW burbs.

btw. resize those pics, they're huuuge! :D

Congratulations on your 2013 Genesis, these cars are extremely over engineered they are built like a BMW or Mercedes and for a faction of the cost.
