  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just purchased a 2011 4.6l with 100k miles! What are some of the first things I should do/check?

To be honest, I have never even heard of the Genesis until a week ago when I saw a Hyundai on Craigslist, but after driving it I knew I had to have it. I am wondering what things I can do straight off the bat to improve quality of the vehicle overall.

Things that have just been completed:
  • Brand new tires
  • Brand new brakes and turned rotors all around
  • New oil change with Mobil 1 synthetic and air filter/cabin air filter
  • New differential fluid (Mobil 1 synthetic)
Here are some questions I have about the vehicle in general after reading through a bunch of forums.
  • Is there truly no way to use bluetooth or USB input with a Galaxy s20 phone? Seems bluetooth is only for phone calls and the USB is just for mass storage. I use Spotify and simply want to stream music. However, I will say my FM transmitter still sounds amazing on the Lexicon sound system.
  • My Drivers door sill does not light up with the "Genesis" badge even though all the other ones light up blue. Simple fix?
  • How do I go about updating the DIS and the navigation maps?
  • My center dial "select" button seems to work and not work randomly. Any way to repair other than replacing the entire control unit?
  • As far as increasing performance, what are the best ways to go about it? I have read using 91 octane fuel, Lucas oil stabilizer and gas stabilizer, and a K&N filter are good things to start with. Is it worth upgrading the exhaust with the Magnapacks?
  • Any way to improve the suspension as far as going over bumps on the highway?
I LOVE the car so far, and even though it has some shortcomings I simply adore the engine, appearance, and driving experience in general.

That's correct.

Probably light bulb.
How do I go about updating the DIS and the navigation maps?
I wouldn't bother because it can only be done at the dealership. You will have to buy 6 DVDs (I think) and dealer will have to spend half day upgrading maps. Google Maps or Waze are much better.

The only performance updates I did is K&N engine air filter, SprintBooster V2, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires in summer.

Looks like the scuff plate doesn't have a bulb. I removed it and it's just one led light piece so I have to order a new scuff plate entirely

1. Pay the dealer $400 or so and bring a full tank of gas. They will run the car for 4 hours while they do the update. Yes that's correct, the car will run for 4 hours and burn a half tank of gas or so.

2. No, not really. Some folks have tried electronics cleaner spray.

3. Other than using 93 octane gas, no. Everything else is a waste of money.

4. Yes, you can swap in 2012 suspension parts (springs, sway bars and shocks/struts).

Do you think the update is worth it? To be honest, I actually really like the built in navigation. I know waze and google are better, but my phone screen is tiny and I like having everything built in. Any other benefits to the map and firmware update?

What Gunkk said.

I am not a auto mechanic, but I think running car's engine idle for four hours is not a good thing.
I saw in some other thread about updating maps on 1st generation of Genesis that some dealers connected battery to charger instead of running car idle for 4 hours.

No and no. I use Waze. But you do you.
