  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I’m the original owner and have really enjoyed my time with it. This fall I’m moving from Mclean, Va to San Francisco. I’m debating whether its worth the hassle and cost of shipping plus SF's brutal gas prices have me second-guessing. These aren't exactly fuel-sippers, and gas is pushing $5+ out there.

67k miles, garage-kept and in pristine condition. I've been religious about maintenance - all dealership serviced, fluids changed on schedule, and recently got new tires. Still under the Hyundai Platinum warranty until December 2025 and has never needed a warranty claim.

I genuinely love this car and hate the thought of selling, but the practical side of me is doing the math on shipping costs, higher California insurance and gas prices. After a decade with the same car, I'm torn between holding onto something I know is great versus the excitement of exploring what's changed in the car world since 2015.

Anyone been through a similar situation? Would you ship it or cut ties while it's still under warranty and worth a decent amount?

That’s a tough call. When I moved from near West Palm Beach to near Raleigh in 2021 I debated whether to keep or sell my 2014 Maxima with 90k on it. Ultimately I decided to keep it and replaced it in January of this year with a G70.

In your case I would probably sell and buy something new. Shipping across the country must be very expensive and ten years with no issues was a good run.

SELL
If you could drive the car out under leisurely "vacation" conditions. maybe, but to ship a 10 year old car, IMO not worth the expense. Given the new location, I'd consider a smaller hybrid or EV.

I would get shipping quotes so you don't make the decision in a vacuum. Factor in the cost of the replacement vehicle, the additional fuel costs of the replacement vehicle vs the Genesis and how long you would keep it if you brought it to CA. In addition, factor in the insurance cost of the Genesis vs the replacement car in CA.

All good points.

And factor in the fun of getting a new car! 😁
