  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all. Purchased a 2016 genesis about three months ago, and one of the key fobs had a low battery shortly after purchase. I followed the instructions found to replace the battery, but now it does not work at all. The red led light does not come on when the buttons are pressed. I've tried several other batteries, and the dealership also put another new battery in it. still nothing. Dealer is going to call me monday to see if they can help me out, but anyone have any clue what might be going on? I don't intend on paying for a new key fob on a vehicle bought 3 months ago "certified used."

I can't see it from here so can't say for sure. Could be something simple like a bent contact not touching the battery or something out of alignment not allowing the buttons to work, or a bad board. Who knows how the previous owner treated it for 4 years. Maybe it was in his bathing suit pocked when he went surfing.
I don't know if fobs are covered under your warranty. Certified means is worked when the dealer used it three months ago.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've looked at the contact pins, can't really see of any issues. There is no apparent issues with the circuit board itself. My first thought was contact pins since it was working before battery change, but does not work after.

Was the new battery tested and confirmed good?

This may sound stupid, but I had the same problem with my fob. It turns out I had the battery in upside down.

No, haven't tested a battery. But I've tried 5 separate new ones, three different brands. I can't imagine they would all be bad?

Does the second fob work? If so remove the battery from it and put it in this fob.

Yes, the second fob works, but I haven't tried that since the one I have taken a battery out of doesn't work now. Didn't want to end up with two non-working. Just did not want to mess with the one that is actually working.

Just to clarify:
When you say it does not work, can we assume it will not even start the car?
As opposed to just the buttons will not work.

I would have the stealealership try to reprogram it. If not, I say they still owe you one as it was supposed to be in working condition to begin with. My .02!
