  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Very intermittent but none the less annoying. I sometimes get close to my car only to press the exterior door lock button and nothing happens. If I take the fob out of my pocket and put it close to the door it works as advertised. Also, I can be in the car trying to start and I will get the message "no key detected" again, taking it out of my pocket solves the issue. Almost like my pocket was lead lined? I went as far as putting in a new fob battery thinking the signal must be weak but it still has happened since the change. Going to have to try my other fob to see if it does the same also. Only happened may 6 or 7 times in the last 3 months. Anyone else?

get a new battery for your key fob. Most likely the battery is very low in the fob.

Geez, does anybody even read when we post about a problem any more?

Still could be battery or contacts in the fob may need cleaning. I have purchased new batteries for watches and other fobs and the new battery was bad, this has happend to me at least five or six times even though the battery had an expiration date a year or more in the future. I hope you find that it is something simple.

I measured the voltage after removal and on the new one before installation. The old was a hair under 3 volts and the new was about 3.3 or something like that if I remember correctly. Contacts were definitely not an issue.

You said that you were going to try your other key fob. Have you done that yet? Seems like a reasonable next step.

I can lock my car from over 100 feet away. This is normal for all remotes,
when the battery is dead they don't work at all. Dealer issue.

Be interesting to know if the 2nd FOB works as it should.

Also rule out the possibility that you may have another electronic device in close proximity that may be interfering with the signal from the Fob.

Could also just be a defective Fob.

My fob works fine even from far away if I press the unlock button. It is the proximity part which seems to be screwing up. The problem has not shown itself for at least a month, so even if I change my fob with my spare I could not tell you if that was the issue until it fails to start or does not allow me to unlock via the exterior door button on the handle.

I hate those intermittent issues.

We purchased a 2010 in August and I have always carried the fob in my purse without any problems. Recently I have noticed the exact same problem described here. It is intermittent also which was confusing to me however I had a problem with it today and searched the forum to see if anyone else had any issues. I have not tried to replace the battery yet but I did notice that if i moved my purse closer to the door it worked better.

Whenever my wife has her key fob in a little side pocket in her purse next to her cell phone she has a problem unlocking the door.
If the cell phone is separated elsewhere in her purse she has no problem unlocking or starting the vehicle.

I always carry the key fob in my right pocket when operating the car and have not experienced any problems. My cell phone is carried in a belt case on the left far enough away to not cause any RF interference with the fob.

Well thank you very much. Never occurred to me that this could cause the issue and I do know that sometimes the key fob is in my coat pocket with my cell. I just went into the garage and tried it with my cell phone on top of my key fob in my pocket. Did not work unless I got the pocket about 18" away from the door handle and worked fine when separated from the cell. interference from the cell is the obvoius culprit. Thanks again. ;)

Darrell hit the nail on the head. All manufactures have this issue, it is Cell phone related! Mine works flawlessly until I am on the phone or getting a call while I am getting out of the car. I receive email on my phone as well so when my phone is receiving email and or text messages that interferes with the proximity signal as well. keep cell phone away from your fob! I think these signals are closely related ....at least enough to cause issues.

I bought a 2013 Genesis in Feb. 2015 and just 2 weeks after buying it I started getting the error message on my dash saying “Key Not in Vehicle”. The car will start and drive, but the message will pop up here and there. Then I may go several day's without it happening again. I replaced the battery in the Key FOB and that didn't change anything. Then last week I started getting false alarms on my front bumper sensors indicating that there was an object near my front bumper. This will happen even while I'm driving down the road. I thought maybe they was a bug (insect) smashed up against one of the sensors but there wasn't. I got these errors for only one (1) day then it stopped. But I still get the “Key Not in Vehicle” error message about every other day.

I just read this. I was also going to recommend the cell phone as the issue. I have had this problem on my new 2014. But only when it is next to my cell phone. Also, the cell phone will zap your hotel magnetic door key as well. Oh and be careful on some credit cards.....

When all else fails - read the owner's manual.

Pages 3-7 and 3-57. A "cellular phone" will interfere with the fob when in close proximity.
