  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Our two keyfobs have started to not work on occasion. Had to use the emergency key and press the start with the fob once. It is an early G70 from May of 2018 and the battery reads at least 12.2 volts. Everything else works and next time we step up to the car the fob works fine. We have not contacted the dealer yet and are going out of town for a week before we do but has any one had this problem? Both fobs started to fail the same day and both now have new batteries.
My thought is just change the car battery but the ones available aftermarket (like Canadian Tire) have terrible reviews so would just pay the dealer to get a good one.

Change the batteries in the key fobs.

The fob batteries can be the problem. Has it happened since you changed them?

As for the car battery, I have a 2018 bought in Oct 2017. Recently changed the battery before I'll be taking a long trip. They don't last forever so I changed it on my terms not hundreds of miles away. Advance Auto has a pretty good one with 3 year warranty. Die Hard, not pro-rated. About $100 less than the dealer price here.

Thanks for the replies. I think you guys are correct.
Today one fob worked twice then stopped working. The other always worked. Replaced the battery three times (to find a good battery) in the bad fob and now it has worked fine. I have spare no name batteries that read good on a voltmeter but that is not a good test. I have read others say to use brand name batteries, and I now agree.
The strange thing was that both fobs started having issues on the same day after four and a half years and that made me think of more possible problems.

Just an FYI. My Mercedes key fob used batts at a rapid rate. Tech support told to never keep the Key Fobs close to the car when not in use. Should be as far away as possible when not in use. Seems the fob is always looking for the car and that uses up the batts. I now keep my Genesis fobs in the kitchen away from the garage. So far so good.

Just to finish this off, I have put new brand name batteries (Energizer)in my two fobs and not an issue since.
What I learned from this, if one fob acts up change both batteries. Don't use no name batteries, I had three different types in my drawer and none worked properly.
I got 4 and half years out of the new fobs before I had to change the batteries. Our truck is almost 20 years old and the batteries have just been changed once but the fob does less. I will change the batteries earlier next time for the G70, unless we have a GV70 by then?

Years ago I heard the story of someone buying a new car because the ashtray was full. So the new version is to buy a new car because the fob needs new batteries.

Must be some kind of quantum entanglement action going on with the two fobs. One fob senses failure in the other fob, and both quit working in solidarity.

I know Hyundai/Kia hired top-notch German designers and engineers. Didn't know that includes theoretical physicists too.

I had a the OP's problem happen to me once, and in addition the driver-side keyless entry would intermittently not work. If I were to head over to the passenger side door then it would open.

Luckily when I brought it in to Genesis to troubleshoot they experienced the keyless entry issue, and replaced the driver's side handle. Since then I haven't run into the issue again.
