  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How did the g70 lose when its lighter and basically same powertrain ? Interesting.

The specs do not give the final drive ratio. If the gearing is different performance would be different. Does anyone know what they are? Is the ECU the same?

A couple of tweaks by the engineers can give one model that slight difference to make it a selling point, the Kia is "sportier"

Drivetrain, gearing, power output is all the same. The Stinger in the video has an exhaust and filled with 94 octane.. I believe it was 35c or 95f, so if the dealer filled with 87 or even 91 in the G70 then it's likely the engine was pulling timing.

didn't expect that result. on paper with the same drivetrain/gearing and less weight obviously the G70 should take it. not by a huge margin, but by a margin nonetheless - assuming the G70 driver is competent.

either what Slip_Angle says is right about the fuel or the Stinger is hiding other mods. maybe he was running JB4 Map 1...ha ha

I confirmed with the Stinger owner he has custom exhaust, 2.5” muffler/resonator delete. That and the heat/octane made the difference

So the Stinger isn't stock, contrary to what the video host says. He's also slow off the line in a couple of the runs where he's beaten badly. Hard to believe just an exhaust mod would be enough to overcome the weight difference and give the Stinger a consistent win. Yeah, maybe they weren't running the same fuel. If so, what's the point? 🙄

Exactly, like last time i checked, i thought power to weight ratio was a thing ? Would be funny if they just put 87 on the g70 though.

If he wants to be credible, he has to start making these things either more fair or more transparent or both. Just like the 2nd run against the TLX Type-S he short shifted the G70 down to like 4K and then exclaimed how close the race was... sheesh. It was so obvious.

I'm not sure but I think most dealers just put in 87 for test drives because the ECU and take care of things and no one on a test drive will know the difference. The dealer will save a lot of money over time.

Yeah he can hides indirectly, then when ppl in comment address the cons, he just brushes it off.

the fuel difference between regular and premium is so negligible. The reason i say that is that , a fair amount of dealerships only makes the customers to go around the block for a test drive anyways. Less than 3 miles. I doubt the cars that actually will favor premium is being driven consistently, but who knows.

im still waiting for the video on the g80 5.0 L vs g80 3.3 T sport, that will be a good race.

He manipulate the car to reach a desired outcome. He throws the fight, so to speak, or has the other person do it. He does it in ALL of his videos. His credibility is zero. He is after VIEWS, c'mon.

True, the difference between 87 and 91 is negligible or non existent in lower temps (on a stock G70). I've tested it. In higher temps like what they raced in the octane will make a larger difference. They raced in 95F.

How did you confirm with the Stinger owner that his car was not stock? Do you know the owner?

Found him on Instagram and messaged him. He also has video the races and his car.

Damn good detective work indeed.:)

So the guy in the video is full of crap it seems when he said the Stinger was stock. Hell, the other cars the G70 lost to in his videos could also be modded as well.

So true. My 2015 5.0 was filled up with 87 octane RaceTrac right before my eyes by the salesman during my test drive. However, my 5.0 ran well with it. Just a slight vibration at idle and it was still quick around town. 93 octane really smooth out the engine idle and made my 5.0 feel quicker at highway speeds, but pretty much the same around town in normal driving.

The 5.0 only loses about 17 hp when using 87 octane, so it would probably be only a 1/10th different in 0-60 acceleration which is nil, but it could make the difference in a close drag race.

Stock for stock the 3.3T will probably win from a standstill race due to having more low end torque(about 1800 rpm). The 5.0 need to rev to about 4k rpm to make the same amount of torque, the 5.0 will walk it down as the speed increase since it does has more horsepower.

If both cars had launch control than the race would probably go to the 5.0 in stock form.

That Sam lost all credibility with his videos. If he is a car guy, he should know the mods the stinger has, and let everybody knows in front....Based on that the G70 did an excelent job....I don't thing the g70 is slower and I had an stinger and now a G70..... Also, are we sure the stinger is awd, it doesn't have the awd badge!

Yeah, I think there are a lot of unwanted variables in these videos.

  • Hidden mods
  • Fuel quality/octane
  • Dealer vs owner cars - owners generally know how to get the best out of their car (brake boosting, shift points, launch types etc)
  • Outright cheating (like the TLX video and short shifting)

It's disappointing.

Yes, especially since he gets TONs of views, and pushes outright lies and half-truths, and most people are too, well, unobservant, to notice. The guy just wants views and $$$$$, he is not after any sort objective truth on his way to bank.
