  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone installed on of these in a 2015 or similar model Genesis? It's prices about right and I like the ease of use and that it is compact in size.

Hideaway Powered Subwoofer | KICKER®

I considered using it in the trunk vs. under a seat due to limited under seat space.

It comes with all the wiring needed but I am NOT tech savvy but willing to learn vs. paying Best Buy to install. So how easy would it be to install in trunk? How easy would it be to tap into the rear deck speakers since head unit would be a major pain to get access to.

Any feedback is appreciated as well as tips and tricks to doing this would be awesome too!

Thanks

I like it and Best Buy does some good work that is warrantied. Best of luck with the install.

I have not heard this specific Kicker model, but have heard half a dozen of these small compact subs meant to go under a seat. None of them get very loud, and none of them sounded very good. Since the Genesis trunk is so well sealed, I would be surprised if you could hear the output of this sub at all. These manufacturers haven't broken the laws of physics - a small sub can only do so much. If you were to put 2 or maybe 4 of them in the trunk, then that would make a difference.

You talked of the sealed trunk, but what's odd is that the rear center deck has a speaker grill that opens to the trunk but there is no speaker under the grill (in my car at least). So I'm pretty sure that the sub sound could output to some extent from that grill.

I had a 1000w 12" sub in the trunk and had to open the bypass (behind the rear center arm rest) in order to really feel it.

I doubt this 150w 8" sub will make a significant difference with the bypass closed. As already mentioned, the trunk is well sealed.

I would just put one or two of the slim 6 /1/2in or 8in enclosures under the front seats for the best bass performance in the cabin. I also would still tap into the rear deck speaker for an input while using a small 1/2 to 1 farad capacitor to help with supplying power to the amplifiers without placing a major drain on the stock electrical system.

Is there really any room under either seat though for these? Looking under the seats it seems loaded with motors, wires and other stuff. Little room to shove a sub box it seems.

I just check my seats and they will not fit by just sliding them under the seats, however they may fit if we remove the seats and then install the units. So I would just say that the low profile bass units are useless for our Genesis unless you are willing to put in work to install them, yet they still may not fit under the seats. Mounting them on the backseat is an option, but I do not think that bass will be heard really well in our sealed trunks.
I actually like my stock sound system the way it is so I will not waste money on one of those slim under seat units.

In my 2009 the sub was rear center deck. I'd love to be able to just mount a sub speaker in the same spot in my 2015 if it would fit.

if the spot is empty I don't see why it would not, that is where the stock sub goes, at least on the Lexicon system:
