  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2013 gen coupe 3.8l rspec. But it has a spun bearing. And i would like to know what kind of engines would fit. Looking for something of equal power. But i also dont want to spend a trillion dollars either. So i just want to know the cheapest option. But i still want it to have power.

It would help to narrow down your options and desires aside from price. Have you looked at rebuilding the present engine? Swap for a junkyard engine? Re-manufactured?

Straight equal swap is usually fastest and thus cheaper. If it is just a matter of bearings, that is probably cheapest.

Is it hard to replace the bearings?

Not for a decent mechanic. Engines last a long time these days and it is not done as often as years ago. It was common in the 1950's to do rings and bearings at about 50,000 miles. Materials, tolerances and lubricants have improved.

Looking around at some of the coupe forums, it seems that those guys have been playing with LS swaps, (Chevy LS Series of V-8) which I find very interesting. LS motors in their various forms are easy to find and aftermarket support for them is phenomenal. If I had a coupe with a blown motor, this is the type of swap that I'd be pricing out. ;)

However, you state in your post that you are looking for something of equal power that won't break the bank. To tag onto what Ed said, your best bet is to find a mechanic that will rebuild your bottom end. Repairing a bottom end that has spun bearings can be anywhere from fairly "easy" to somewhat expensive, depending on the damage that was done. Either way, the motor needs to come out and the bottom end disassembled and crank/rod ends inspected. There are cheaper shade tree mechanic ways to take care of the issue, but if you want longevity/reliability out of the motor, it's best to do it the right way the first time.
Your other option is to search for someone with a wrecked Genesis with a good lower mileage motor and either swap in the bottom end or the whole thing.

Good luck

You can put whatever you want in it, just all boils down to how much disposable income you have and how handy you are.

I have a 2013 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 coupe R-spec. I’m wondering if a Hyundai Genesis Sdn 3.8 engine can fit to my car!?

The coupe and sedan share a platform so technically the Tau will fit but I'd go with a LS swap because it'll be a lot easier.

I could be mistaken, but I think I remember some builder doing a Hyundai-sanctioned one-off Tau in the coupe transplant for an auto show back-in-the-day. No one really ever saw it running, and it certainly didn't become a "thing."

I remember this, so I had to find it on YouTube and here it is. Rhys Millen who is a pro racing driver was tossing the car around on the video clipped here. This car was also at SEMA in 2009.
