  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I contacted Kooks headers about headers for our 5.0 sedans. This is their reply. Dear George, Thanks for your interest in Kooks Headers Exhaust. The Genesis is not something we would typically would develop headers and connection pipes for. However we could make a private label header if interested. We require a minimum order of 50 units in order to develop the headers. Let me know your thoughts and we can go from there. This is what I got l don't know if there is 50 people that would want headers. So it is possible but probably not going to happen. I would sign up. Don't know cost.

I can't imagine trying to fit headers in that tight a$$ engine compartment. Would the time and $ be worth the extra horsepower?🤔

Nope! Not without the ability to tune. These cars leave A LOT of power locked away in the ecu. That's where we should concentrate our efforts.

Not sure there is a ton of power locked in the ecu. The info I got about a custom tune showed an increase of about 25 WHP and about the same for torque. Tuning has other benefits that have interest to me, but the torque and horsepower increase for a NA engine are not high. Turbo, different story.....

It's unknown how much power headers would net on these engines since no one has done it. Tune helps but I believe headers would have more of an effect. I'd love to join in on this but good luck finding 50 people willing to spend likely $1000-1500 for it.

Peak numbers are just for bragging rights. Even if a tune added 0 peak horsepower, if it could loosen the iron grip the ecu has on the torque output, this car could be a beast with stock numbers. From the factor, the overly aggressive torque limiters, especially below 30mph, really numbs the performance.

Low end torque is controlled by the throttle plate, fuel and timing(ignition and valve). If that could be electronically tuned out, this car would actually drive like it has 420 hp.

The ecu out of the factory for any car is set up to give a certain driving experience using the specific equipment on the car. The computer can cope with small equipment and environmental changes and adjust the "tune" on the fly. However, changing something like the headers without adjusting the tune for it is really not suggested. Best case, you're not fully utilizing the potential of the headers. Worst case, you can ruin the day to day driveability of the car.
