lane keep steering (how to defeat or trick 15 sec warning)

On infinitis q50, i watched a video on youtube where the car is steering on the highway for well over 3 minutes(Q50 Driving Itself: http://youtu.be/nCJCcQImqpQ), my question is in the genesis is there a way to trick the system into thinking that hands are on the wheel or a way to disable the warning completely so that it can steer itself forever on highway, or will it always shut down if no hands are detected on the steering wheel?

There obviously is a way to do it since it was done on the driverless convoy. The question is whether or not we can do it or if the change is somewhere in the code that we can't access.

Cheaper and safer solution is probably move to the passenger seat and let someone else drive if you don't feel like driving.

I am a bit tongue and cheek on this comment. Only slightly. Many of us get tired of busy body do gooders mouthing off in horror. Too many of those who have worked their way into our .gov. Causing chaos and overbearing rule making.

I tested this feature on a 5-lane, empty, gently curving road with wide shoulders the first week I had the car. It worked as advertised. No need to ever take my hands off the wheel for any extended period again.

The LKA on my 3.8 RWD Ultimate is not reliable enough to go driverless. anything more than the most gentle curve and you are in the ditch or other lane. The warning and vibration work fine.

Try Nutty Brown Road before 7 am on a Sunday morning. I didn't see even one moving vehicle in all 4 miles that morning. BTW, I was counting the wide paved shoulders when I said 5-lane.

Ah not familiar with that one. I am however familiar with The Nutty Brown Cafe on 290, the site of my introduction to "Deep Fried French Toast". It was the first (and mercifully the last) time I will ever eat that particular concoction ;-).

One time I plan on turning it on is when we take long road trips. In that arena I see a great benefit to having that extra added safety. Around town, no so much. Much rather have control in heavy traffic.

I have found that I tend to turn it off on local roads and only use it on the highway. Driving around time, there are too may times where I cross the line (generally intentionally) and don't feel like having the car react. Even on the highway, I have to be in the 'mood' to use it. Nice to have it on the car but glad it can be turned off.

The same goes with the blind-spot monitoring which I think is VERY conservative. When I merge in front of someone on the highway, more often than not it will beep at me even when I am well ahead of the car....sort of annoying.

You can set it to Pre or Post lane departure. Pre corrects earlier and post lets you have more control on how far out of lane you go. It doesn't kick in as fast. I actually like the Pre as it gently guides you and I hardly notice it because I generally pay attention and stay in my lane....
