  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've put about 8000 miles on my Genesis and i've noticed multiple, very large scratches in the leather steering wheel, apparently coming from my wedding ring. I'm a bit surprised because the ring has no sharp edges, but is rather a plain gold band. I'm wondering if i should bring the car in to have the steering whel replaced under warranty---seems the leather must be ultra thin and this shouldn't be happening.

Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks

Maybe your wife would let you take your ring off whenever you are leaving the house to drive. Heh, heh!

Are you the only driver?

Fingernails? Wristwatch? Bracelet?

Could the scrapes be cracks?

Ha, knew i'd get the wife crack...

No, i'm the only driver and it is clearly where my ring would be. I'm not talking one scratch, but 15-20

Sorry about the earlier post. :D But maybe you are holding the wheel too tightly with your left hand and either sliding it or turning your hand so that the inside edge of the ring is digging into the wheel. It's probably an unconscious habit. It will require an effort on your part to catch yourself doing it. Changing it out the wheel before discovering the cause could be a big waste of time and/or money.

Sounding more like a defect in the leather. Take it back and have it looked at.

I have the same problem with the steering wheel leather wearing off in one spot on my 2009 4.6 w/ tech., although mine is more of a worn spot and not scratched. I think the leather is too thin myself and will soon find out if it is replaceable under warranty.
