Hello, all

After having an audio problem, I had the amplifier replaced under warranty.
Here's the original thread;
http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=4980&page=3

Amplifier seems to work fine, but for some reason, XM can't get the radio and Navtraffic to work with the new amplifier.
I probably spent a good 5 hours today trying to get the signal to go through and activate the radio.
As a last option, XM completely removed the subscription and package, reactivated the service, and still nada.

Those of you who had the amplifier replaced, how did you transfer the XM subscription over to the new amplifier?

I even opened a case through Hyundai Consumer Affairs, and they basically told me to go back to the dealer to have the amplifier replaced.. again.

Now I'm really starting to get frustrated.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Dan

The XM quit in the first week I owned the car. The dealer reprogrammed the whole audio system, then had XM re-activate the service, and all has been fine since. They did initially think they were going to have to replace the head unit.

I wonder if your dealer missed a step or something when installing it. I doubt it, but maybe they missed the antenna harness? Sorry, no help here.... many people have had their amp replaced, someone should be able to help.

I thought about something like that, but channel 1(XM preview) and 247(Emergency) is working just fine.

I went back to the dealer yesterday, and the service manager said he's going to find out what's wrong with it.
He's going to talk to his rep and possibly order a brand new unit, not a refurbished one.

Dan

Just dropped off my car at the dealership.
Service manager said he's going to take care of the XM transfer process as well.

I'm impressed with the service they're providing, just not so impressed with the quality of the vehicle. (Reliability/stability of the electrical systems in general)

Yep.

If it's one thing I didn't like about the Genesis it would be the electrical system. So many issues - I had my car out of service for nearly 2 months in the first year because of that - on a new, "luxury" car, that's not acceptable.

I had to push consumer affairs hard when they didn't fix it after a few attempts for a new amplifier, too. My service manager always got refurbs

Dimitry,
What was your issue with the amplifier?
Same as mine?
Did you also have problem with the XM subscription not transferring over?

Thanks,

Dan

Make sure your XM Radio Identification is the same as what the XM people have on you. That is, the ID is listed in channel 0 or 1 (forget which). When you talk with the XM people, make sure they have the correct ID.

In my case, when XM went to bill me after one year, the ID they had listed for me was not the ID in my XM screen. Nobody know how or why it was different, but it was. Once I told them the correct ID, everything worked fine. (This had nothing to do with the amplifier change).

I had my amplifier changed, due to all the audio dropping out, every once in a while, on start up. Audio would only come back on after engine was shut off for five or ten minutes or so, then restarted. After the amplifier was changed, I had no more problems, plus I still had all my XM plus AM/FM.

As for the "Traffic" icon on the Navi screen, and the NavTraffic Green/Yellow/Red lines not showing up, I just want to remind everyone that this is not available everywhere in the country. Also, you may get one and not the other as they are somehow independant of each other.

Just make sure your XM Radio ID is the same as what XM thinks you have.

In order to "transfer" a service from one radio to another radio ID, they do need a new radio ID.
I'm sure they got the new ID right.

To give you an update on this issue, service replaced the amplifier again to see if that fixed the issue and that amplifier also had the intermittent audio issue. lol.
So they replaced it AGAIN(fourth amplifier) and tried to transfer the XM subscription.
Didn't work. Service manager spoke with XM people and apparently, my radio activation is in some kind of 'pending' state, and said that it'll take anywhere from an hour to 24 hrs to complete this process.

I'll see if it can get activated tomorrow, and go from there.
Not sure what I should do if they still can't get the XM to work on mine.

Dan

Sirius/XM CS is the worst. I really love the content, but the CS sucks. I have a feeling your XM isn't going to come back. I'd give it 25hrs. If nothing send it back to the dealer.... The preview channels still come in?

Thanks,

My XM actually glitched and had a full subscription long past the trial period (which I didn't mind) - the most problems I had was from the overheating.

Hopefully, your XM should activate soon.

I have a bad feeling as well. This 'pending' status of the activation process doesn't make sense to me.
Since I don't know any better, I'm gonna give it a few more hours until later today and see if it comes back.
If not, I'm gonna have to go back to the dealer.

Yeah, the preview channel and 247 emergency channel still works fine.

Fortunately, the refurbished amp I have in the car right now works fine. No overheating or intermittent sound issue.
It's just that I cannot get XM/Navtraffic to work.

I'm very impressed with my dealer/service department.
I got a courtesy call today from my sales person, and he wanted to see how the repair process was going.
IMO, they're doing their best they can to have this issue resolved. I don't know what else they can do within their ability.

Well, the XM/NavTraffic saga continues.

Service manager called me last Friday saying that it should all go well if I 'refresh' the signal the next morning by submitting the form through XM's website.
That website threw an error message saying they can't refresh for some odd reason, so I called them directly and have them refresh the signal again.

After leaving my car running on the parking lot for an hour and a half... still nothing. Ugh. At this point, I'm really pissed.
Not sure who's fault it is, and honestly I don't care.
This whole issue rose because of the faulty original amplifier, and I expected my dealer or Hyundai to fix this issue.
No one could do a thing(which I don't blame 'em, since I couldn't either), and I'm stuck with a car with no radio and no NavTraffic(LOVED that feature).
I called my service manager again(I really feel bad that I had to keep calling him), and he basically told me that there's nothing else he can do for me.

I called Consumer Affairs again, and they apologized politely(I know it's not their fault) and said that someone else would keep in touch with me within this week.
I said why not. I'll give them their chance to make this right.

I really wish to end this frustration.
I'm also surprised that no one else who has had their amp replaced didn't have an issue with the service transfer.
Anyone?

Dan

So is this technically your thrid amp? First one broke, second one couldn't get XM signal and the third one is just like the second one?

Well, technically it's my fourth amp.
First one (the original amp that came with the car) broke, second one couldn't get XM, third one they put in had the same audio problem as the first one, so they replaced it right away with the fourth one. Still no XM.

It might not be the amplifier that's causing this problem. Maybe some kind of system mismatch? (between HU and amplifier?)
I don't know...

I'm on my 4th amp/2nd head unit.

All have had some kind of XM problem, all but one have had other problems as well. The second amp would never hold the XM signal for more than an hour or so.

I don't actually have a solution yet. Hyundai intends to continue changing amps until they get it right. I've been without XM/Nav/Radio/Steering Wheel controls off and on for more than 6 months now. I haven't yet owned the car for a year.

Wow. Did you look for other options to.... resolve this issue?
Someone in the upper management from Consumer affairs contacted me regarding this issue last Wednesday.
Was promised that someone from the dealer will be contacting me, but haven't heard anything yet.
I'll give them a few more days and then I'll start to seek for some professional help.

I wasted 3 months trying to work with HMC. All it got me was frustrated. At one point, a customer service rep from HMC actually asked me if "not having a radio is that big a deal"?

While I was attempting to get some relief from HMC, I continued to visit the dealership that sold me the car. I had a single meeting with the GM - he told me that my problem was with HMC, and HMC would have to solve it. It wasn't his problem, and he had no intention of doing anything other than continue to replace amps as they failed.

In all honesty, I am suprised at the way HMC has handled this. They have more invested in replacement parts/labor than it would have cost them to simply buy back the car. This is my 5th Hyundai, 4 from the same dealer that sold me the Genesis. I expected that to matter. Apparently, it does not.

So - I am now in my 8th month with a mostly non-functioning radio/Nav/XM/DVD/Steering Wheel controls. The HMC rep assigned to my case refuses to even answer my attorney's emails.

And the really good news? My Steering Wheel will no longer tilt. I asked to have it repaired during one of my previous trips to the dealer. they couldn't duplicate the problem - even though I was able to demonstrate the issue when I picked the car up.

Unbelievable.
So, opening a case with Consumer Affairs didn't do much for you, huh?
I get the feeling that it's going to be the exact same case for me as well.
I haven't heard back from the 'appropriate personnel' since last Wednesday.
I even called them this Tuesday, only to hear that there's no update.

What do we do in this kind of f-cked up situation?
Should I look for an attorney?

Dan
