  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi group,

I recently purchased a 2012 3.8 Genesis Sedan. I absolutely love my car. One of the license bulbs is out and I want to fix it ASAP. I have searched this forum and the internet for advice how to take it apart to fix it, can’t find anything. There appears to be two Phillips head screws holding the clear lens on. I suspect it is going to be a bit more difficult than simply taking the cover off and popping a new bulb in. Can I please get some advice on what I need to do? Also can this be swapped with an LED bulb? Thanks everyone.

I don't remember how I did it (it was 9 years ago) but I replaced license plate halogen bulbs with LED bulbs.

Funny, when I got mine that was the only thing I could find wrong with it(right side plate bulb). I did replace it within a few days and it was easy, only took a couple minutes. I did gently use needle nose pliers to get the new bulb in.

I replaced both mine with LED when I got my 2012 used. Open the trunk for a better angle, remove screws and remove covers. If I remember correctly, the covers are kinda wedged in there but do come out. I may have used a small flat head screwdriver to pop them out.

Thanks Mozart Man!

Just had to do this last night, picked up two 6418 LED bulbs from separate Advance Auto stores (each store only had ONE LMAO), and used two small screw drivers to pry the plastic cover off each side, and I was able to wiggle the housing out, and snap the two LEDs in. So happy to have not been pulled over without these working. Car is a 2009 4.6L with approximately 115k miles. Still loving this car, as it's very good to me.

Thanks Kevgen…If you like the 6418 LED’s I’ll buy them too. After tackling that job I need to replace the drivers side fog light. I’d like to go with a brighter than stock LED. Not sure about the bulb or how tough of a job it will be to replace it. Finally, my dome lights and room lights will need to be fixed. I think that will be my biggest challenge yet. I’m definitely looking for an easy solution. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!!

Sounds like you've got quitea few lights to replace. Funny you mention the fog lights. I've been extremely lazy and riding around with the replacements in the cubby. Unlike you, I did not buy LED versions, but the standard ones. Maybe I'll look into LED ones instead
