  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How do you go about getting lighted door sills for the 3.8?
Is this a do it yourself project?
Thanks RonP

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Reach under one end of the sill with a thin screwdriver. pry it up, get your fingers under it and pull it off.

Locate the plug in the middle of the wire harness, cut the tape to release it, plug it into the socket of the new lighted sills. Align the sill into position, push down and snap it into place,Stand back and admire.

I did get the lighted sills, you are right, very easy to put in and look great!!!
Got them from Kia, good price and fast shipping......

Here is a site with the illuminated door skuff plates. A very easy job to do (I did it in less than 10 minutes). You just pop off skuff plate, plug into wiring harness and reinsert new plate.

Someone posted instructions/pictures of how to do. Just search 'skuff plates' to get link.

I followed the link and got a "product not found" message. Then I did a general search for door sills and nothing for the Genesis sedan, only the coupe. Any other places to find this product?

Battery disconnect necessary?

I ordered front sills from KAI in early january. They are currently on backorder and delivery is expected in 2-3 weeks. I'd like to do the install myself but I'm not good at that stuff.

Do I need to worry about accidentally breaking the clips when I remove the original door sill? That's my biggest concern.

If you break something, you can order the replacement part from your parts department or an online Hyundai parts dealer. That would probably be cheaper than paying the dealer labor to do it.

The sills snap off pretty easy on my Sonata without breaking any clips, and I would presume the Genesis would be the same. Give it a shot. I just hope you receive the product you ordered.:(

The sills pry up easily. I did this on my leased 2009 3.8, put the originals back when I handed it in, and then transferred them to my leased 2011 3.8. Just keep the originals in the packing you got the illuminated ones in.

No need to disconnect the battery.

As pimping one's ride goes, this is easy.... :D

I'm bringing this topic back to life since I installed my lighted sills this afternoon. Gave a guy at a stereo/alarm shop in L.A. $20 to do the installation. Installation took 5 minutes and they look great. The sills aren't cheap but its a great upgrade I'll see everyday. Well worth it imho.

I installed the sills for the front doors. Now I have ordered the rear sills. I like the look.

there is a company connected to this site that sells them, they are do it yourself but i just went ahead and bought a car that has them already

I received the rear lighted sills and installed them. I like the look. Ordered from KAI. They turned out to be a special order that took about a month to get here. Their website says usually ships in 2 to 7 business days. It also says nothing about special order, but it is.

Where can I buy these other than KAI? I fon't deal with them

You and me both.

Anybody know the Hyundai/Mobis part numbers for these? I have ran across the following but aren't sure if they are correct. Haven;t found any for the rear though.
