  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Limp Mode?

You may be confusing me with another poster. I have only spoken to the fact that these are very different engines, nothing else.
I have not commented on the Sante Fe and Sonata engines because I have not researched those two, and unlike some, I don't like to make comments on things that I am presently ignorant about.
You're right -- I did confuse you with the poster who said that the problem I encountered with my G80 was "Not really relevant at all" to a similar problem with a G70. So yes, you did contribute to this thread by pointing out that the G80 and G70 engines have different engines. That's very helpful, and goes a long way to addressing the main issue raised in this post. Thanks.

That was me, and I clearly said because the G80 and G70 have not only totally different engines (both 4 and 6 cylinder), but totally different infotainment systems as well. Didn't mean to be rude, but I just said the truth. Plus this is a G70 forum, so the wrong forum for a G80, GV70, and any other Genesis vehicle, since only the G70 remains the odd duck with the old 2.0T and 3.3T engines, and older 5W infotainment, rather than the 2.5T and 3.5T engines, with the new Gen6 infotainment. Just find the G80 forum (or GV70, etc), and you'd probably get much better help :). Good luck.

Thanks. To be clear, I wasn't looking for help when I commented on this thread. I originally pointed out to Jupiterose that she (and everyone else, for that matter) should absolutely report serious safety issues to the NHTSA so that they can track problems with manufacturers' cars. The fact that different models of a particular manufacturer have different engines, etc. is relevant for some questions and less important for others. Is it possible that there may be a common cause among models that could cause something like the limp mode encountered by the original poster above? Sure. And car companies sometimes have to recall vehicles for serious safety issues even if it doesn't arise all that often, but neither car companies nor regulators will ever be aware of the problems unless people notify them through the use of central regulatory repositories like the NHTSA database.

And that issue is not G70 versus G80 (or even Genesis) specific.

What's been miserable for me is that my car failed at highway speeds of 75mph and kept failing over and over for the next half an hour, and then refused to start at all for three hours until I had to have it towed to a dealer. And yet, it showed NO ERROR OR FAULT CODES. That's bananas. First dealership couldn't replicate the problem so they just handed the car back to me and said, "Sorry." Of course it happened again, and guess what? No error or fault codes again.

I have sent Genesis a demand letter under my state's lemon law demanding that they take this car back and refund me everything that I have paid out so far (i.e. a complete refund).
Similar experience. ZERO codes with this issue and first dealer tried to tell me I wasn't put the correct gas in it. Second dealership finally found the issue but dropped the ball service wise. In fact, I went to pick up my car after the engine replacement today and the AC didnt work and there was a heinous rattle coming from the front end now. 3 months with my car and didnt even test drive it thoroughly before giving it back, knowing I had been in touch with corporate already.

Please file a complaint at the NHTSA website about that serious safety issues.

That is a good idea. Genesis called me today that now they see an oil leak, in my new engine, and cannot find it and need to use dye to see it.

I was on my way home from work in my 2022 G70 3.3T AWD. Damn thing lite up like a Christmas tree. Collision warning, check your blind spot, check engine light went on as well and went into limp mode going 37mph. I was on a back road all by myself. I pulled over, put the car in park, and turned it off. Waited thirty seconds and started it back up. The check engine light was on but the car seemed to have full power. I did notice the exhaust sounded like it was in sport mode but it was in comfort mode. So I switched it to sport mode but while the screen said it changed, nothing else did. The seat bolsters did not squeeze in and the driving characteristics did not change. I only have 17,500 miles on it and I’m pissed. I won’t have time to take it in until Thursday. I’ll have to drive my much more trustworthy Dodge Challenger R/T until then. I’m guessing it’s purely electronic but who knows. Anyone have any guesses?

No codes that you can see in App? I know in my app or the website I can see the codes that come up.

They found out that the Turbo had a leaky gasket. Picked the car up today. Still waiting to hear back from Genesis on possible buyback. Tough to trust their work and the car at this point.

I’m the second owner of the car and when I try to set it up it won’t let me.
I was too, you just gotta call the services customer support. It’s decent support, especially considering their dealer support. You tried registering it with your phone plugged in right?

Curious to see what the codes say. Could be a number of things. Does limp mode ride real rough, or just limiting power?

I just submitted all the docs online to get the car registered in my name.

It just limited the power. It didn’t ride rough at all.

So as an update, I went to drop my G70 off at the dealer and all the sudden the check engine light went out and it’s acting like normal. They can’t get to it until Monday but they will see what codes it threw. I’ll let you guys know incase this happens to anyone else.
