  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was idle at the fast food line for a good 15 mins or so and it went into limp mode. What could be the cause? I am heading to AutoZone to get code scan.

There are probably a little less than a hundred possibilities base on the information given so far. Should we start throwing out very wild guesses?

Sure. Apparently on my way to get codes read. The check light disappeared. Bummer. Can't get it ready now

The code(s) remain for several cycles even after the light has gone off. They can still be read.
There is not just one "limp" mode. There are actually several different such modes, and the differences can be subtle if you are not acquainted with them. What were the symptoms of the one the you experienced?

Rpm won't go more than 1-2000. Sluggish acceleration not pass 15mph. No power. If ac turn on, loses power etc.

So I got the codes. They are throttle actuator control range codes

You did not give your age, but eventually limp mode can happen, especially in the 70s. Your doctor can prescribe help.

Your symptoms indicate a ETC failsafe condition, and the last two codes agree with that. The first code is the key one. The last two are just telling what the first one resulted in. I don't know enough about your engine to direct you to the specific component tests to do to determine the exact problem.

I had all 3 exact same trouble codes in January. I was able to limp home. I broke/found an existing broke hose clamp connecting the air intake to the throttle body. Thinking back it probably broke as I took it apart. Replaced it and no change. The car would rough idle. I cleared codes and they came back. I do have an old Hyundai GDS software and followed steps to check throttle body motor resistance, checked wires, etc. Everything was in spec. Car still would not idle correctly. I found a throttle body actuation test within GDS. Ran it several times and most were good but would occasionally test out of bounds. Then I found the below service bulletin and replaced the throttle body unit. Two months without issue. Hopefully yours is still good.

Just like any other time that I browse this site, I learn something. I had never heard of limp mode. Does my 2015 2nd generation sedan have limp mode capability?

Just about all cars from the 90s on up have several different "limp" or FEM (Failure Effects Management) modes, for both the engine and the transmission.

Thanks. I guess I'm lucky I haven't learned about it the hard way.

No, not hard. You will learn more about limp mode in your 70s.
I'm already there...in my 70's, that is!
