If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Many other auto manufacturers recommend using Liqui Moly Oil for their cars. (Mercedes, BMW, etc.) I researched and see that a 5W-20 "Special Tec AA" for the Asian and America market cars is available.

Has anyone used this oil in their Genesis? Does it have any benefit versus other synthetics like Mobil, Castrol, etc?

I've been using Mobil 5w-20 or 5w-30 synthetic in my 2009 3.8 since I bought her with 22k miles. I have almost 100k miles now and wonder if the Liqui Moly would be better protection. Cost on Amazon is about $30/5L which isn't much more than Mobil.

I searched the forums here and didn't see anything discussed. I'd like to hear what others think.

Thanks

From web site
"Especially suitable where there are long intervals between oil changes and heavy duty engine requirements."

I have a 210k Acura that I do asynthetic oil change every 7500 miles. Engine is still running perfect. Why add something to the oil when you can just follow the recommend oil change interval?

Special Tec AA 5W-20 - Oils
Thanks
One reason it is recommended by MB and BMW is that Liqui Moly is a German company. Many auto makers suggest a particular brand of lubricant because they get better discounts buying it for use at the factory.

I've seen a lot of talk about one brand or another, talk about the specs of one versus another. What I've not seen is any real test. The way to prove this out is to take identical engines and run them under the same conditions for the same time and do a teardown. There are many opinions available, but few facts. Any name brand synthetic that meets the requirements of the auto maker should perform well.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Or send an oil sample right before your next oil change to Blackstone Labs.

Then do an oil change and add the MB. Wait until you're due for another oil change and send that sample to Blackstone Labs.

Compare results.

That is the only way to tell. So many people try to sell stuff without anything to back it up.

I've had the blackstone report recently performed on Genny and everything looked good. I only use Mobil 1 syn and will continue with synthetic oil. I just wondered if Liqui Moly had anything exciting or special about it....and assumed the MB and BMW manufactures recommend based on location.

However, I will say on a side note: I used to have a Volvo V70R and the recommendation for that car (based on enthusiast) was to use a special Castrol Synthetic oil because it was manufactured in Germany and honestly I could tell the difference in the engine. Of course that was a different engine.

Thanks for all input.

Moly oil is used for high sheer lubrication in larger diesel and petrol, low rpm, working engines, generally used under high load stresses. You don't need it, it's a waste of money.

What was the oil dilution percentage from Blackstone? Was it under 3.0 if you don't mind me asking? What engine do you have?

Oil dilution is what you ought to be aware of more with the GDI engine. This will determine if you are utilizing effective lubrication and help determine how often you need to change your oil.

I have the 2009 3.8 non-GDI engine. I reviewed the report from Blackstone again and couldn't locate the oil dilution percentage you mentioned. Could it be called something else? I changed the oil at 5k and per the report, the engine is to be healthy.

Could be Fuel Dilution. I haven't seen a Blackstone Lab Report.

Fuel dilution is excellent especially for a GDI engine. Thank you for posting the report.
