  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Liquid Glass and LustreLab- BEST for black!

Many thanks for the product information. My 2010 is the first black car I have owned since my 1948 Studebaker Land Cruiser! That thing had thick baked on paint. My Genesis has those scratches you mentioned and I have been bothered by them. I found the LustreLab product at Amazon (it qualifies for free shipping). It won't hurt to give it a try.
Taking care of a black car is an art. I could go on for hours but I really would suggest you sign on to Meguiars.com. Today's clearcoat paints are for the lack of a better word "harder" which makes them last much longer then single stage paints of yesteryear. The problem is that to maintain the showroom finish, doing it by hand is darn near impossible, and you really have to have the right tools and technique to do it properly. That means, applicators ,chemicals, towels, technique, etc. No matter how careful you are swirls, hazing, spider webbing, micro-marring is going to occur. The darker the car the easier it is to see. You can get away with more on a white/silver car, but...black,dark blue, maroon, it's much more visible.

Mentioned before in another posting but the Zaino Z5-PRO is made for darker colored vehicles that are prone by the easily visible surface marring or fine scratches from regular maintenance. Z-5 PRO and its micro filling technology reduces the appearance of these surface imperfections without using any abrasives. Without using cheap oils or cheap fillers ...

On a seperate note- has anyone ever tried the Turtle Wax Black Box? I have not but have seen forums where it is talked about. Also a good comparison test then debate can be found on Zaino vs. ICE vs. Meguiar's at The Caddys Edge".

I found that Amazon also carries Liquid Glass, so I bought it. So far, I have applied it only to the rear part of the car, from the rear window back. When I put it on, I noticed some streaking on the trunk lid. I tried to buff it off, but it stayed. The instructions said to use a wet rag to remove streaking, so I tried that. I think it worked. We have had a lot of rain for a long time, so I am waiting (raining now) for a chance to wash and wax the whole car. If anyone has tips about avoiding or removing streaks, please pass them on.

Never had a streaking problem. Suggest you turn your towel more often.
Also, use Liquid Glass on all glass surfaces. Same shine and protection.:D

Thanks. I'll pay attention to frequent turning. I applied the LG with an old washcloth. Does it make any difference what is used? Will any soft, clean rag work equally well? I recall applying some liquid waxes with a sponge, but I think the LG instructions said a "coarse cloth."

For the love of god, do not use old rags, or shop towels, or bath towels. Use dedicated foam or microfiber applicator pads that you can but at any autoparts store for 2 bucks. Same goes for removing product.

HA!! I use sandpaper and Kilz on my paint prior to applying wax:D

Some years ago, I talked my wife into washing her car while I was washing mine. She casually asked me how much it would cost to have a car repainted. I didn't immediately connect her question to washing the car. A few minutes later, I discovered that she had tried to remove some tar splashes with Brillo pads!!! Sadly, a true story. Fortunately, the damage was not terrible and I used buffing compound to get it more or less fixed. Don't suggest sandpaper to her. :-)

Gipp, is your car black? If I remember correctly, you suggested Z-5 but was it you who also suggested a base coat of Z-2 followed by one or more applications of Z-5? I'm about to do my first paint treatment on my 2009 Black 3.8. The car was manufactured Oct 29, 2008 so it will definitely need the clay bar prep. Thanks for your advice,

Ron:)

Yes, my car is black and very shiny!!!! Zaino has changed thier website where they no longer mention using the Z2 as a base. Yes, I would wash first with Dove and then clay bar. Seems a bit tedious until you get the hang of it. Then Z-5 your heart away. Grande Finale is great for showing off days.

Thanks, Gipp. I didn't know about the new "theory" on the Zaino website. I thought I had looked at it recently too. Okay, then, I have a brand new unopened bottle of Z-2 that I will have to drink over ice I guess. I'll get a new bottle of Z-5 because there's very little left in my old one. Do you use ZFX accelerator with the Z-5?

Ron;)

Fellow Genesis Owners:
Keep it simple.
Use the Liquid Glass with LXR and your car will shine like you've never seen it shine.
Period. Trust me. Been doing it for years and it works perfectly.
As always, please have a Great Day!
Thanks! Ron

Has anyone tried the Liquid Glass Legend product, or are all the references for the Polish/Finish product?

From what I can tell the Liquid Glass Legend product is a paint sealant, which is a man made chemical protectant. Waxes are usually Carnuba, or plant based, and work well, but don't last as long as paint sealants. For what it's worth this stuff is $100 bucks a bottle. Yikes. Wax is like 10 bucks a bottle. I found it on sale here:

I just hit my car up with some liquid glass detail spray.... it brings out the shine really nice along with the use of liquid glass polish. Car was polished 2 weeks ago and sprayed today. Looking sweet!
