  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Liscence Plate Removal/Patch

Again, you're an annoying hypocrite. Nothing more. I'm not going to even ask if you've j-walked, sped (even 1mph over the posted limit), etc. Because I know you have. So YOU in your life have picked what laws you like. So as you judge us from your pedestal, remember 'he who is without sin cast the first stone'.

Yes I'm technically breaking the law. Just like I did this morning when I had my cruise set at 73 in a 65. And I could not give a shit less.

You have a 1G car anyway, what's your point even posting here. Other than to nitpick and make yourself look like a douche? I'm just a guy trying to post simple, helpful DIY. Buzz off man, go police the internet somewhere else.

No prob, most dealerships don't install front plates around here anyway. Especially on AMG, M, etc. cars.

Please, tell me more about a man I personally know.

I'll let him know you question his competency after decades on patrol, as a unit armorer, and breacher.

Sorry you've lost your cool. You are likely a better person than you've shown us here, 27 whole posts into your membership.

License plate scanners. The car mounted scanners can read 1,800 tags a minute at any speed. Aside from personal opinions on privacy, they can instantly check plates and the names of vehicle owners against registration records, fugitive warrants, tax and criminal data bases.

Agreed. This video clearly shows the law-enforcement benefits of license plate readers, including hits on front plates. Scofflaws who do not display front plates, in those states which require them, are impeding the effectiveness of the police and should be ticketed. It's a simple as that.

So when all those out of state cars are on the road in a state where the front plate is mandatory I guess they are "impeding the effectiveness of the police" but are allowed to do so because they do not live there?

It's the Internet, I really don't care what you think of me. I have enough acceptance in real life.

I'm new here, not to forums (I go by this username everywhere and have tons of good feedback). I've learned post count doesn't mean a whole lot. One can be a tool with thousands of posts....

"Scofflaws"

Seriously, does anybody use that term anymore?

"It's as simple as that"?? OK - If you say so.

For OP: Thanks for the post and the photos. Looks like this thread has turned into a debate on traffic law.

Again Ernie, I'm still waiting for an answer, have you sped on public roads? You have zero room to talk if you've ever exceeded the speed limit. It's bad form to yell at everyone for playing a-la-cart with the law, when you likely do it yourself on a daily basis.

I forwarded this link to a few buddies, we may have an influx of non-Hyundai owning law enforcement in here momentarily. I'm sure you'll be thrilled to debate this directly with those who don't enforce it.

Thanks man. If the Bert and Ernie show is that passionate about the issue, I wish they'd start their own thread. Or write my local Chief to inform him of my ludicrous and out of bounds behavior. :D

Sure, let's debate scofflaw cops here. I'd love to meet just one cop who wants to tell us why he supports (and emulates) folks who don't obey the motor vehicle laws that he is paid to enforce at work.

Again, failing to answer my question. That's an answer in and of itself.

Indubitably.

Would you also agree that cars with DRLs are safer than cars without? I'm always happy to comply with Canadian law when I'm in Canada. If my USA car doesn't have DRLs, then I'm happy to admit that USA law is not as intelligent. Perhaps you should apply the same courtesy to the laws of the many USA states, as well as your Queen's country, which require front plates.

Jeez.... I was actually considering ripping my front plate off and plugging the holes, but now I am reconsidering my potential outlaw behavior! :D

dude, SETTLE DOWN!

dude, SETTLE DOWN!

I got pulled over the other day and the officer asked if I knew why he was pulling me over. I said "because my front plate is not on?". He said "No, it's because you were doing 37 in a 25 mph zone".

I apologized as I did not realize it was a 25 zone. He said it had recently changed as residents had been complaining. He didn't give me a ticket and just said to watch my speed on that road. No further mention of the missing front plate that I had pointed out to him - he did not care! And this is in NJ where front plates are law.

BTW - I fully understand I'm not compliant and will mount it if I actually get some grief or a ticket. Just like I'm aware I can get a ticket for exceeding the posted speed of 55-65 mph on most NJ highways - but like most folks, I regularly drive at 75 mph. I guess I'm a criminal and should be put in prison?

That was a joke.. Actually your info is helpful to anyone who may want to plug the holes. I may move to a no front plate state at some point.

Thanks. I was about to start this project on my new 2016 Genesis. You saved me alot of research. I seriously don't get the attitude from PMCErnie. WTF? Live and let live, for christ's sake.

Glad my cars are registered in North Carolina, which is civilized enough to not require front plates.

Good! I felt a little dumb for posting a "DIY" on something so simple, but finding the right part/plug was the hardest part and I wanted to share the info!

Yeah I used to live in Skillman and changed my front bumper after mounting an intercooler to a VW, new bumper didn't get drilled and therefore no plate. Never an issue, and NJ troopers were STRICT.

Oh I know - I was joking too
