List of Stuff That's Gone Wrong with my CPO 2015 5.0

First off I am very, very glad this thing is CPO. Mostly minor, or semi-serious issues, but I've never had a car in the shop this much.

Purchased with 27k miles on it 14 months ago. Now has 42k miles. Warranty is up in April of 2020 and I'm making sure it's gone by then. Cosmetically it's a 9.5/10, in better shape than the day I picked it up.

In no particular order:

1. Fuel module A failed, wanting to stall, belching smoke, had to be towed, took Hyundai's contractors six hours to show up. CPO
2. Apple CarPlay works when it wants, Hyundai refuses to R/R the radio and/or USB jack, says "electronics are out of warranty, too bad, so sad". Spent a week in the shop over this. Still an issue.
3. Rubber trunk handle disintegrated, replaced CPO
4. Wheels had to be powder coated due to failing clear coat, took a week CPO/goodwill
5. Fuel door pin broke, replaced CPO
6. Sunroof failed to close, new part OUT OF POCKET
7. All B/C pillar trim oxidized, replaced CPO
8. CEL, rough idle wanted to stall, bad fuel smell afterward, in the shop now bad EVAP canister, not a single one available in the US, no clue when it'll be in. CPO
9. Strong fuel odor two weeks ago in my garage...see above
10. Rattling noise coming from the center console area when driving around 25-35mph when it's cold, not fixed
11. Plastic shift indicator cover bubbling, will see if they'll R/R this since it'll be in the shop for a while
12. Shift knob brightwork clear coat flaking off

The fuel issues have been a little more than annoying, especially when trying to cross an intersection and the vehicle is considering whether or not it wants to stall. This second trip to the shop over seeing the CEL, and it seemingly wanting to stall/fuel smell finally presented the EVAP diagnosis.

Now, I want to say the people at Key Hyundai here are fantastic, they have gone above and beyond to handle the car. When the CEL came on yesterday, I drove directly over there and they gave me an Elantra with 22 miles on it immediately as a loaner. I cannot cay enough about what a great service department they run.

The other thing I want to say is I like the car. I loved it up until this latest issue, but it's going to be tough for me going forward. Great car aesthetically, but I think I'll be moving on soon. Really thought I'd be keeping this one for a while.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I had a 2011 Sonata thru 70k until it was totaled. Seemed to be reliable and mostly trouble free, so I thought a Genesis was a nice upgrade. I have 34k on my '16 v6 and hope nothing major comes up, especially out of warranty.

I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on low-mileage '15, with one factor being reliability. But, after reading about lots of issues on this forum, I'm going to delay or cancel the buy.

Go for a '16. Longer warranty on the electronics.
Most cars are very reliable but every brand has one that is very problematic.

Wow. I have personally had the same issues with #3, 7 and 10. 3 and 7 to me are minor issues, things I would fix myself, and 10 sounds to me like the infamous propshaft noise. I personally think it is a bearing warming up and of no big concern, but there you are. The other stuff sounds like a pita. I have not had any issues with 2,4,5 6 or 11.

Sorry to hear that. This is reason i dont prefer to buy used unless i know the party that took care of the car.

The fuel issues, i.e. Evap canister is likely someone topping off the tank when fueling up, yourself or the previous owner. only takes one time to screw up the system.

there is a reason the manual says not to top off the tank, it is a closed system due to epa regulations and overfilling causes the excessive to overflow into the evap canister which isn’t designed to handle liquid fuel, only fuel vapors.

liquid fuel in the canister vapor locks the fuel system, the way around it until fixed is to leave the gas cap off until the tank is down about 1-2 gallons so there is ample room in the tank for the fuel to expand.

Sorry to hear, REMIX. You've had some issues, most minor ones known to this board and ones we've all dealt with. The bigger PIA's always make us say "time to go" but hopefully they'll get you fixed up sooner rather than later and maybe some love will come back. Keep us posted.

Most cars are very reliable but every brand has one that is very problematic.

Kinda reminds me of the old adage: "never buy the first year of a new (generation) model." Always gotta work out those kinks when they do a redesign. Not saying the '15 was that bad in comparison and most of these issues appear to cross over into other years.

I had the '15 Base Genny and traded to get all the toys, and those very electric gremlins my car enthusiast buddy stated are listed in this forum every day, but I wouldn't trade her for the world at this point. Every vehicle I have owned has had its issues, it's how you deal with those that determine your sanity, so it's no wonder I'm crazy.

to think you're not mistaken. I had purchased the same warranty with my 15 and I asked the finance advisor if the head unit went 5 years from now would I be covered he said yes I said how about the window motor he said yes I said how about the electric seat he said yes. I did not pay peanuts for it either.

I didn't push the shift knob issue before I traded it.

The bubbling on the shift indicator turned out to be the plastic film from when new.

Did CPO cover flaking shift knob?

Wow your list of problems is longer than mine. I also wanted to love this car and planed to keep it for some time, but there isn't a day that goes by now that I don't dream about getting rid of it. Just waiting to pay it down a little further so I don't loose a ton of money since this thing depreciates like a rock. By far the most unreliable car I have had in my 30 years of driving and I have been through quite a few vehicles.
