  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just bought a 2011 4.6 and am trying to familiarize myself with all the features of this car. Can anyone tell me what the little door is under the CD?DVD chager and next to the open storage area?

That is where you charge your keys

:welcome:

Or insert your keyfob if your car won't start because the keyfob battery is dead.

I didn't know our keys needed or could be charged?

Can you elaborate?

OldSpice is wrong. Keyfob CAN'T be charged. It is just a slot to place the keyfob in order to run the car if/when the battery in the keyfob needs replacing.

Note if the battery in the keyfob goes bad, the keyfob must be placed in the slot until it clicks in place. Won't work if just slides in withoug clicking in place. When removing, you again have to push in for it to unclick to remove.

Where people got the idea that the slot is to charge the battery is anyones guess, but not true. (BTW, that battery is not chargable anyway).

Dealers have been known to lie <grin> :D
Probably more ignorance than a lie.

I find that I know a lot more about the car than any service person that I have encountered to date. My dealer is not a bad dealer and they do try, but they simply have not sold or serviced enough Genesis to be experts.

I was told this at the dealer, did not read it in manual

I was told the same thing by mine. I did ask him how it is possible to recharge a non rechargeable battery. :D Obviously not.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
It's not hidden - it's an opening the thickness and width of your keyfob, just to the left of the open storage area beneath the cd player - you can't miss it.

Reading the owner's manual is quite helpful for this task. ;) Welcome to the forum though. You'll find lots of good information here.

Thanks everyone for the replies. This Forum is very helpful. By the way, Mike, I did read the owner's manual but must have missed this.

Mike, I did read the owner's manual but must have missed this.

In my owner's manual, the primary discussions of the smart key holder are on pages 4-64 and 5-10 (plus a couple of other vague references throughout the manual).

It's easy to miss, particularly when the dang owner's manual is 373 pages long:mad:

I downloaded a PDF copy from www.hmaservice.com so that I can "word search" it. Sure beats the heck out of thumbing through my paper copy all the time.

Yep, the pdf download of the owners manual is the way to go. I downloaded it about two months ago.

I did that too, but couldn't find a PDF of the DIS manual there. There is one attached to a sticky thread in this forum, but it's from 2009. Do you know if a 2010 or 11 version is available somewhere? Thanks.

From what I gather dealers are trained that the key fob holder charges the key. This is not the case as others have pointed out since the battery in our fobs are non-rechargeable.

The DIS Owners Manual is also on www.hmaservice.com (click "Service Information" then "OM" and then down-select to "Genesis(BH) but don't select the year), but its only the 2009 version.
