  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Genesis has been pretty much flawless, but I do have two little gremlins and I am wondering whether others have experienced similar problems.

1) When putting the car in reverse the DIS will switch to the very first track on the iPod regardless of what was playing at the time - iPod, XM, etc. I had to change the songs on the iPod so that I had a song I like as the first song as I hear it often (at least the first few seconds of it).

2) Sometimes the steering wheel does not lower all the way to the driving position after starting the car. It moves about an inch or two and then I have to move it with the lever.

Anyone have these issues? Was the dealer able to fix them? Thanks.

Jeff

Thanks. That is not an issue - it stops moving before I put in gear.

HOLY CRAP! Excuse the language. I thought this entire time it was just my keys or wallet hitting the aux button. But you just solved why my car goes to my ipod everytime I start it. I thought I just had a really fat leg. Now that I know the cause of this i'll have to play around...

Issue 1: I get the same thing. Seems to be a result of the iPod not shutting off when the car does. The iPod's battery will drain completely until it shuts down. Henceforth, the iPod is running off the car's power and is booting fresh each time you start up. As a result it forgets what was playing before and starts at track 1.

Issue 2: Steering wheel angle is part of the user presets for the seat and side mirrors positions. Try holding down the preset button for 1 or 2, wait for the beep, adjust the wheel to the desired position and hit the preset button again. Should go where you want it in the future.

Hope this helps.

#1- I had this problem with a 1st generation IPOD Nano. Battery would completely discharge and then start from the first song the next time I started the car. I upgraded to a newer generation IPOD and now do not see this issue any longer.

#2- I have the same problem. Not a preset programming problem because the issue is intermittent. Actually on mine it is occurring with greater frequency, ~75% of the time now. I'll have the dealer look at it next time I take the car in for service.

i don't listen to my ipod too much but that is a whole other story, as for the steering wheel i get the same issue both ways, sometimes it doesn't go up all the way when i turn off the car as well. seems like a manufacturer issue once it gets annoying i'll have the dealer look into it.

I need to verify this, but on issue #2, I believe that the seat and steering stop moving as soon as you shift the car in either drive or reverse. This is probably an interlock feature which prevents such movements of seats and column while driving for safety reasons. So if you shift the car very shortly after starting it, it may not have time to finish moving the seat and the steering column to its final position.

On #2, this happens to me if I change gear before car is done "booting up". If we put car in reverse before my seat is adjusted, it stops in the middle too and I have go back to "P" gear and hit the memory preset button for all things to adjust to my settings.

So far I am thinking its a safety feature. Is it not?

Interesting theory with the ipod shutting down. I can tell you that I leave my ipod in my Volvo attached to the USB port all the time and my ipod never resets. It is always on the song (the exact spot of the song in fact) where it was when I shut off the car. My prior car was the same. This seems like a software glitch to me. Hopefully Hyundai will figure it out and release new software for the ipod connectivity.

I agree, it's a safety feature, but given the propensity of the responses that think the performance is somewhat "odd", is it also possible that the steering wheel isn't moving to the pre-set position as quickly as we're accustomed to in like vehicles? I'm going on 5 months now, and still find myself shifting gears before the steering wheel reaches the right position, requiring me to readjust manually.

I hit the start button and then fasten the belt while the wheel comes down. That gives it plenty of time before I put the car in gear. I don't have the seat reposition as I see no need for it.

#2 - Same here - sometimes the steering wheel goes to the correct position, sometimes it doesn't. I've noticed that it goes to the correct position after the car has been off for awhile....if I start/stop/start, that's when it gets a little flaky.

I just instinctively push the memory button now every time I start the car.

FWIW, I had this exact same problem on my 2000 Lincoln LS....perhaps the gremlins aren't biased?

I have a 2nd generation Ipod. When power to the stereo/nav starts up the IPOD is also starting up and connecting to the stereo when it is paired it will start (also at the first item, in my case a movie that of course is not available to use or access on the Gen interface). I have to Wait till the interface is fully loaded to navigate the menu (IPOD) or just change to the desired function IE XM, radio, discs. This is is not fords sync tec, Hyundia did not talk to apple when dsigining this interface.

# 2: I have the same problem, it is happening more and more that it does not want to go to the preset position.
It is so minor that I have not taken it to the dealership yet.

I had the dealer take a look at #2. They replaced the steering wheel power tilt and telescope limit switch per TSB 08-BE-010 and now all is good.

#2 I've had the same problem. Sometimes if it doesn't move down after starting even the switch will not move it down. The switch will still move it in and out.

#2 - I get the same thing. When I first started driving my Genny I noted that the steering wheel and seat would stop moving into position if the transmission was put in gear, so I am now very attuned to not touching the gear shift until the steering and seat are set. I have noticed intermittent cases when the steering does not move completely into its programmed position. If I then hit the memory button on the door, it finishes moving into position.
