LKAS SteerMode

Anybody else notice their LKAS system has an aggressive propensity to tip into corners (perfectly, I might add) on entry with a good lane lock? It tips in/boosts steering assist for about 4 seconds before releasing. It's not happening as a feature of running out of lane bounds.

I'm thinking it does this normally but SteerMode increases the aggressiveness significantly.

PS: I used this title because Google has 0 results for SteerMode functionality.

I deactivated my active lane assist and just have the system set to warning only. However, I did notice that active lane assist is very aggressive in nudging the car when correcting my driving when going into corners.

I personally did not like the feeling of fighting the car for control when taking corners, but the system did seem to be pretty good at staying within the lanes if the lines on the roads were clear and have decent paint for the system to read. However, the system seems to get a bit confused on some roads with faded lines.

No doubt if you're full alert and like to be fully in command, turn the LKAS either off or to warning mode. On the open road with my LKAS in full mode, I'm more laid back and willing to slip a bit side to side instead of having to be in the exact center of my lane. If I do slip a bit one way or the other, a little pressure on the wheel and I'm back in the center. I do keep at least one hand on the wheel at all times.

I prefer this method as I like to check out the passing scenery, the vehicles passing me (yeah, I'm the guy in the right hand lane), just cruising along and in no hurry to be the first one at the next red light. Yesterday I was in the car pool line, cruise control set to 65 (speed limit 60) and some woman comes up rapidly behind before slowing to ride my bumper for about 3 miles. I'm supposed to pull over for her??? Screw that. Finally she jerks right, hits the go pedal and she's GONE. I see this kind of behavior all the time. WTF?

Hi Carguy75, how do you change it to warning mode? I turned mine off as well for the same reasons as yours. I hated how it tried correcting me when the lanes weren’t clearly marked or like you said, faded. Much easier now with it turned off.

When the 2nd generation Genesis came on the market, several reviewers complained about the system suggesting it was over aggressive in its functioning. I personally have found this to be true, and turned the system off.

I like the tactile steeri g wheel feedback at the lowest LKAS nanny setting.

I have noticed the haptic feedback system seems to have diminished in intensity during the 6 months I have owned my car. However, I am still very happy overall with the system. I have a 16 awd ultimate model and averaging about 24 mpg using real calculations, not the estimated mpg readout which is typically about 2 mpg over the real mpg.

If you go in Engineering mode and enable SteerMode under the Auto Test group it gets even more aggressive...but only in corners.

Can you explain exactly how to do this? I don't see engineering or steermode in any of my settings. Thanks!

I haven't driven the G70 yet, but I have a 2017 Audi Q7, and it's lane assist does the same thing. I feel like its fighting me and looses its mind occasionally when the lines aren't perfect - especially in places where the white line on the right veers away toward something like an off ramp.

You need to go into the settings menu in the instrument cluster. While in the setting menu you need to enter the driving assist menu and then enter the LKAS menu. You have three options that allows you to set the system to which are warning only, pre-lane active assist that prevents you from leaving the lane and post lane assist that steers you back into the lane if you leave the lane.

G70 vs. 2015/2016 Genesis,. the menus will be different, the 2017-2019 G80 menus are even different from the 2015-2016 Genesis.

In my 2018 G80 the menu option is under the Lane Keep Assist (LKAS) Menu, the options are:

Lane Depature Warning (LKAS off, Alert only via Steering Wheel Vibration and flashing symbol in DIS and/or HUD)
Standard LKA (pre on yours, alert via vibration/flashing symbol, and gentle nudge back into lane if you drift, no lane tracking)
Active LKA (post on yours, alert as above, and aggressively steer you back into the lane if you drift and active lane tracking i.e. will steer you through a gentle curve with no hands on the wheel and will alert you to put your hands on the wheel.



all the above only work at speeds above 40mph
