  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Year
2023
Genesis Model Type
Genesis GV60
Today I received a letter from Genesis to wit:

"Dear Valued Guest,

We want to share an important update regarding Genesis of Stevens Creek. Effective October 31st, we will be discontinuing the Genesis brand at our Stevens Creek location".

When we bought our GV60 almost three years ago we were told they were working on opening a new location just for Genesis a few blocks down the street on Steven's Creek Blvd. Apparently that is not going to happen and instead of a 4-5 mile drive to the current Steven's Creek Hyundai/Genesis location we will now have to drive ~40 miles to the San Bruno location. Not happy.

Don't feel too bad. There's one Genesis dealer in the entire state of Oregon.

I had a dealer 15 miles away but chose the one that was 45 miles. I bought a Genesis because I like to drive a nice car so 45 miles was not a big deal.

And every time you service it or take it for issues you also take it to that far away dealer?

Yes, only a couple of times a year. Just an easy drive, good service. If we wanted good rye bread for dinner, I'd drive 30 miles to a good bakery. If we wanted Italian food, it was 35 miles east. Work was 26 miles. Never thought of anything less than 50 miles being a hardship.

Sorry to hear that. We also bought our GV60 3 years ago from Genesis of Stevens Creek, however we have been having the service done at the Dublin, CA location.

That is unfortunate. We have three Genesis dealerships in the greater Phoenix area. One in North Scottdale, one in Chandler and one in Peoria. That represents northeast, southeast and northwest.

By contrast, there are 4 BMW dealerships in the area (scottsdale-northeast; arrowhead-northwest;chapman - midtown and southeast). Mercedes has about the same footprint as BMW.

So Genesis covers the greater Phoenix area pretty much the same as BMW and MB.

I have 2 Hyundai/Genesis dealers within 5-10 miles from my house. One of them is the dealer I leased my GV70 from. Not too long after I took delivery, Genesis of Mentor opened a stand-alone dealership. They are 40 miles from my house, but that's where I go for all service. They've been outstanding and are very much worth the drive. And as EdP stated, I love to drive my Genesis so I don't mind the trip at all.

You guys are lucky. There is one dealer in the entire state of Washington. One in Oregon. Zero in Idaho. To get the one I wanted I had to fly to Utah and then drive it home to the Seattle area. California wouldn't lease to me because I don't live there.

No wonder Genesis doesn't sell many cars, they don't have many dealers.

Which came first, the selling of cars (chicken) or the dealerships (egg)?

Look at the history.
First, there was a Hyundai top of the line model called Genesis. Any Hyundai dealer could sell it.
Corporate decided to break if off as a brand itself and open 90 dealers around the country that would give the experience buyres expect from a luxury brand.
Hyundai franchise owners took them to court and said "no, you can't do that"

How come Honda and Toyota dealers did not fight for Acura and Lexus?

Different start up. They were brought in as a new brand, not something that used to be sold by Toyota or Honda. Different laws, not a lost franchise.

Regardless of the reason, I'm convinced it is holding back Genesis. Nobody is going to drive 100+ miles to a Genesis dealer when they are looking to buy if they can find just about any other brand within 25 miles. If Genesis wants to sell cars, they should have a dealer in every city with a population over 100,000. At the very least, they should allow Hyundai/Genesis or Kia/Genesis dealers. And if they do that, then anyone looking for a Genesis dealer on the Genesis website should also show those dealers.

Comparing Genesis to other luxury brands is apples to oranges. Totally different circumstances. Also, when doing these comparisons, people are forgetting that Genesis, as a stand-alone brand, has only been in existence for around 10 years (11/2025 is the anniversary). They're trying and it's their Hyundai dealerships that put them behind the 8 ball. I agree that the circumstances aren't ideal for everyone. But I'll state this, I've driven almost all of the luxury brands and nothing compares to a Genesis. I've leased for many years, but I love my GV70 so much that I'm 90% sure that I'll be buying it at lease end, 7/2026.

I totally love my GV60 but my experience with two different dealers and corporate has been piss poor terrible.
I still have a year and change on my lease but at the end of it, not sure I will get another one based on my overall experience.

Sorry to hear. We had only one Hyundai/Genesis dealer in Sacramento. They lost the dealership and six months later a standalone Genesis dealer opened that is part of Envision Motors. Find out where their inventory is going. Maybe you will get lucky and a standalone is coming.
