  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is it possible to lock the car with the engine running ? My last car <Infiniti> allowed me to do this. There are times when I would like to keep the car running while I do something else, but as yet, have not been able to do this with my Genesis.

On the 2009-2012's it would defeat the purpose of the key fob, on the 2013's it's said that the Blue Link will have a remote start feature (a first for the Genesis), so in that case yes I'd think the doors would still be in the locked position until you approach the car with your fob....just a guess but it seems logical.

The doors will not lock but if you are far enough away with the key fob in your pocket, I don't think the car can be stolen. I know that when I leave, the car will sound for a bit to warn me that I'm leaving the car running.

FYI In regards to locking your vehicle. You cannot lock the 2012 sedan with a door open.( At least on mine) For years I'd get out my cars while pushing the lock button and close the door. I would be out of the vehicle before my wife who would have her door open and be gathering up her pocketbook and whatever before exiting and closing her door. On the Genesis the doors don't lock unless all doors are closed. You hear a click but they don't lock. I learned the hard way as I got in the car one day reached up to get my sun glasses, gone, glove box emptied 2 pairs of my wife's prescription glasses and other goodies. I was out about $900. At first I was blaming valet parking at an upscale restaurant. Then my wife discovered my door was open and she didn't have her fob with her. Shortly after I realized why I had difficulty opening the door on many occasions, It was already open. Live and learn...Probably every time my wife was in the car with me for the first month and a half after purchase it was never locked after we parked.
Water under the bridge, I still love the Genny.

I know this has nothing to do with your question but thought it fit your locking subject..

I've done it by having driver window down, all doors closed, click the lock button, roll up window (one click) then only way to enter is using the actual key in the door. However u can drive off with car without the key fob. I've tried it. Not sure exactly how fast or far but I did it down the street.

You can drive as fast and as far as you want until you shut off the engine...and then you're stuck. My wife and I learned this the hard way during an out-of-town trip.

I was driving...had the key fob in my pocket...stopped at our hotel...we both got out...I got my stuff out of the car...she got in and took off to go do some shopping. 30 minutes later the phone in our hotel room rang..."Honey, come pick me up. I can't start the car."

It cost me a cab ride and a load of grief for the rest of the trip.

I am guessing that it cannot be done. My 2006 Infiniti let me lock the doors, with fob in my pocket from the outside by pushing the buttons on the door handle. I was hoping to be able to do that with the Genny. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice.

Read my post, it can be done but just a little more work in order to accomplish it. In the end it's not even worth going through all that work lol

I had a 2009 Infiniti FX that did it and was slightly disappointed when I discovered that the Genesis didn't.
